2018 3401RL Redwood.

The fwd awning extends but won't retract using either the In-Command control panel in the coach or the iPhone app. Went to the basement at the main control panel with a manual selector switch set to fwd awning and the awning did retract and the other control options also functioned. BUT now what ever switches the polarity to retract the awning has failed cant trigger the awning to extend at all.

When I cycle the In-Command control panel or the manual override (switch in the basement) to extend or retract I hear distinctly a clicking sound from behind the main panel. I am assuming there is a relay on the panel but I cant identify which one is it. I tried removing 5 relays and operating the switch but had no affect on the clicking (wrong relay?). I suppose I could continue removing the remaining relays one at a time and maybe get lucky? I am hoping someone out here on this blog could confirm or correct my one assumption and get me looking at the best solution or troubleshooting method.

The good news is the awning will roll up while triggering the extend mode so we can travel but still need some help finding the switch or relay that operates the awning controls. Or perhaps it is in the awning drive head if that is the case then I have an extra drive head at home and can replace it upon our return.

It would be nice if I could separate the false floor from the slideout without disturbing the carpet however it appears to be securely fastened to the floor and walls with staples and screws. I would appreciate any direction and experience. We have a 2015 Crossroads Lincoln front livingroom 5th wheel. The sleeper sofa is located over this area with the entertainment area located in the opposing slideout.

Our Slide Toppers and Main Awning are starting to show their age due to weather, sun, wind and such.

The Slide Toppers are stating to get brittle and tear along the track edges and the Main Awning is also showing some tears at the roller tube edge so I am looking at replacing them.

I have been on the Tough Awnings website looking at their product, looks good and should last for many years. I do not know if anybody has had experience with Tough Awnings or has other suggestions for other Awning Fabric but comments or suggestions appreciated.

Have not decided on the color yet, not sure if I am going with a darker color or lighter color this time. Looking at either a chocolate brown or a champagne color.

I know slide toppers are a Love / Hate thing, some love them, some hate them. We love ours, with 5 slide outs and being in the southeast most of the time we get a lot of sun (which the awnings help with the summer heat) and a lot of leaves, nuts and others things from trees on top of our roof and slides. The slide awnings prevent having to go clean off the tops of the awnings every time we move and when it is raining we do not have a slide roof loaded with water when bring it in to move. I installed our Slide awnings 6 years ago and put them on with a little more pitch than the factory typically does and we have good tension on our awnings. Due to how I installed them we have never had water pooling on top of our awnings in 6 years of fulltime use and we even rode out a hurricane a few years back (yes they did flap some during the hurricane) and on very windy days they will flap some.

Has anybody else replaced their slide topper or awning material and has comments, suggestions, tips for us, it would be appreciated.

Sorry.... JUST FRUSTRATED tonight but thought all should read.!!!

Other post:

I have a 2013 36FL. After driving through the rain for 4 hours, I noticed some water leaked from the slide while closed onto the living room carpet. After further inspection, the hard plastic shield covering the bottom of the slide floor leaked water from the edge which goes farthest into the RV (leading edge as the slide moves in). There appears to be water between the outside hard plastic and the floor of the slide. Once I pulled the slide out, it appears the slide floor the part facing the elements (covered by the hard plastic) is soft in a few spots. Any ideas how the water is getting between the hard plastic cover and the wood floor of the slide? Has anyone else had this problem? Any repair ideas?

My post:
We just found the same problem on our 14 36FL. I am still very frustrated at the moment and most likely will never consider a RW again after this mess.
I believe I found the leaks on both front slides. Appears to be the roof seams were the tape is applied and RW will just say I didn't keep up with my maintenance. Have cleaned well and added new Eterna bond tape on all. I believe this was the leaking point but not 100% yet.
Hard plastic held water. Our slides are open 95% of the time.
Now the frustrating part that I have not ripped into yet is I believe the plywood under the bottom hard plastic is nothing but rot, mush and probably mold. I am hoping I can actually do this repair without taking the slides out. Might be a few months before I get to it.
REDWOOD...…. we love ours and plan to keep it but we are DONE and will NEVER buy another RW.
I will never recommend a RW to anyone again and will only tell them to stay clear and buy something else. All these years of owning RV's I have never had this many issues until RW came into my life.

If I had to pay for this repair and luckily I can do it myself but it probably would be well in the thousands since any dealer would take the slides out.

Pictures to follow when into it.

I have a question or too about hydraulic slides. To get the slides out it take any where from 8 to 10 times on the control panel before the slide are all the way out into position. You need to remove your finger from the control panel wait about 2 seconds and press the button again. You need to this 8 to 10 times. This is for both direction, in or out. It doesn't make any difference what the temperature is. 2019 model 3401. Any ideas ?

Well Lippert got me again.
A couple of years ago my left side Schwintek motor failed (Broken wires on the motor) so I eventually replaced both motors (miss diagnosed and replaced the wrong motor the first time, so replaced the other motor with new as was not going to put a old / used motor in)
Well in the last few moves now the right side has been acting up.
This time I know now better how to diagnose which motor is causing the problem.
Sure enough removed the motor and found a broken wire.
I replaced both motors since the broken wire issue is a design issue that has been corrected on newer model motors and while I had things apart and was motivated I wanted to longtime fix.
The wiring on my 2014 model Schwintek motors attaches directly to the motors circuit board, that is where the wires break. The redesign has a plastic connector / support at the motors circuit board connection that supports the wires and hopefully prevents them from breaking.
Tested operation and all is good in Redwood Land again.
