For those that have upgraded to the full membership, I have added a further access to the developer menu. This is where I am developing the Technical Library and uploading our problems/solutions.

Can you please review and provide comments and suggestions for improvement. I do note that it will continually develop, especially as I learn more about the options available with the software.

Prior to uploading solutions I have made some edits and/or added photos. I felt it important that you review and approve these before going live.

The developer menu is listed at the top of the left sidebar. Other projects are also under development, with tech library at the bottom of this menu. If you are unable to see this menu please advise, as this is my first attempt at playing with the access controls.

Gents,

The committee needs to get going on defining the common problems and the solutions. Andy Patterson has now developed an index and is starting to post the problems and solutions in what will be a closed part of the club website for paying members. The result of our work will add great value for redwood owners to join the club. Please have a look at the list of common problems that we previously developed and are posted in a separate thread on this forum, and choose some items that you would like to develop. If possible, Andy would like to have the material posted as an attachment written as a word document. Otherwise he can work with the copy written into a thread. We have also posted some of the Redwood drawings that we have collected. I'm not sure if the committee members can open up the topics listed under the developer menu on the left side of this page, but the work that has been done so far is outstanding.

Thanks,

Now that the outside temps are warming up popping hydraulics are back.

Here is the technical fix from Lippert:
LIP Sheet - 0295
HYDRAULICS
ADDING ANTI-STICTION FLUID TO LCI HYDRAULIC SYSTEMS
Introduction:
If there is a popping noise in a Lippert Leveling system, Lippert has approved adding a quart of anti-stiction fluid. Approved fluids are listed by brand name and fluid characteristics below:
1. Torco RFF Grade 15

2. Maxima Fork Oil Grade 15

3. Caterpillar Hydraulic Oil Additive 1U-9891 ( NOTE - Experience indicates this is the more effective additive.)

For maximum results in the shortest amount of time, please follow the preparation and procedure exactly as written below. Failure to follow the preparation and procedure may result in delayed resolution of the audible disturbance.
Preparation:
1. Obtain a clean container (large enough to hold a quart of fluid)
2. Obtain a fluid extraction device (siphon, turkey baster, etc.)
3. Fully retract all hydraulic cylinders and Leveling jacks. (Jacks up and slides in. Best to do this when hitched to truck.)
Then:
1. Using the fluid extraction device, remove one quart of fluid from the power unit reservoir.
2. Add 1/2 quart of the specified fluid.
3. Extend all hydraulic cylinders and jacks fully.
4. Add the remaining amount of the specified fluid.
5. Fully retract all hydraulic cylinders and jacks.
6. Run the Auto-Level feature on the Level-Up system per the instructions found in the Owner's Manual.
NOTE: If the noise persists, the addition of a second quart may be necessary. Follow steps 1 through 6

As a side note it has been found that adding blocks beneath the jack feet also reduces popping. The popping most likely results from expansion and contraction of the jacks and coach structure where there are large temperature swings from day to night.

A frequently occurring problem is that the ABS plastic fenders crack where the sheet metal screws attach them to the side walls of the slides.

It appears that this happens because the screws are over tightened at assembly and compress the plastic fender. The vibrations from traveling down the road then cause stress fractures at the screw locations. These cracks can be repaired by obtaining ABS two-part Epoxy cement from an automotive parts store. The fender can be removed by removing all of the fastening screws. Then the crack can be repaired and the area built up on the backside of the fender by using the ABS epoxy cement. Following the reassembly of the fender to the sidewall the repaired area can then be painted with touch up paint.

To facilitate uploading the problems and solutions to the website can you please submit all responses in a MS Word format (docx/doc). It doesn't matter which version/format, as I am currently using 2016, therefore I can read the current and all older formats.

For photographs, my preference is .jpg I'm not concerned with size, as I will re-size and compress, as required, prior to uploading the image.

Your assistance in providing these formats is greatly appreciated.

Greg/Rob - I was unable to upload the pfd of the Air/Con article, can you please re-post in a Word format.

Thanks,

I am currently working in the background developing the Technical Library folder. As it also includes learning the software, it is a slow process, mostly by trial and error.

At present it is only a rudimentary menu, and is probably only visible to Terry and I, but once complete, it will be posted online for all Full Members to view.

One of the first areas being added is our solutions to common problems, so shortly I will be taking what we have produced to date and posting online. My apologies for the delay in actioning the responses completed to date, but once the Library is functioning, I will have future solutions posted within a couple of days.

Rob - regarding your exceptional article on air conditioning, my thoughts are to post in its entirety, but also post as individual components, as from memory it included about 4 separate components. Are you OK with this suggestion.

I have a further question for the committee, when posting the solutions I am thinking of recognising the author of each solution. Is everybody comfortable with this and if yes, do we want User ID or real name posted.

The problem with the gray water storage on the 31SL is that the galley tank is plumbed to the kitchen sink and to the shower, and the gray water tank is plumbed to the bathroom sink and the washing machine drain. For many units which do not have a washing machine the gray water tank is barely used because the bathroom sink does not use much water.

A convenient solution is to tie the gray water tank and galley tank together by the use of a Valterra gate valve installed at the common drain outlet where the sewer hose connects. The valve is made so that it connects onto the normal hose connection, and the hose can be connected to the downstream side of the valve. Under normal use both the gray tank cable valve and the galley tank cable valves are left open, the black tank valve is closed and the Valterra gate valve is closed. This arrangement allows the gray tank and the galley tank to equalize and utilizes the full capacity of both tanks.

When dumping the system the sequence is to close both the galley tank valve and gray tank valve, then open the Valterra gate valve to drain the plumbing, then open the black tank valve to drain the sewage, then close the black tank valve and open both gray water and galley water valves. By draining the graywater last, the hose will be flushed out. A secondary benefit of installing the Valterra gate valve is that it prevents leakage from the tanks through the cable valves which sometimes collect a piece of debris and weep.

Other Redwood models may be plumbed differently but this same arrangement can be successfully used to expand gray water storage.

I attach my first attempt at creating an index to manage the extensive listing of issues for which we are developing solutions.

Ken - I have used Excel, as I have never liked the Word table feature, but can export to Word, if required. I am thinking the articles be hyper-linked to the list of issues, is this feasible, or can you suggest a better delivery method?. Do you require any specific format for going live with the index?

Thought/comments for additions/deletions/changes are appreciated.
