TOPIC: Inverter won't power residential refrigerator, but will power lights

Inverter won't power residential refrigerator, but will power lights 1 week 5 days ago #1

I found my inverter will not power my residential refrigerator in our 2017 3901MB. It will power the lights and the inverter is showing strong numbers. I think my batteries are charged although I haven't confirmed this. The cells are full of water. I did find a scorched wire from the battery to the HI-AMP Buss 120A fuse #18412OF. I've replaced the wire and this did not solve the problem. I don't know how to determine if the fuse is bad or if the transfer switch is damaged.

Please explain what lights the Inverter is powering?
Our Inverter only powers our Fridge, that was until I added an outlet in the basement off the Inverter to power our Coleman Portable Freezer. Our 1000 Watt Magnum Inverter powers both without a problem when we're traveling.

The ceiling puck lights. Maybe I'm wrong that they need the inverter.

The ceiling Puck Lights along with just about all the other Lights run off the 12V Battery or when on Shore Power off the Converter (converts 120VAC to 12VDC) vs the Inverter (converts 12VDC to 120VAC) to power a Residential Fridge.

Before you reset your GFI, was there power to your inverter?

Hi. You said your inverter has good numbers. That means there is power to the inverter and it’s on. Assuming it’s in the front compartment, reach up and unplug the single plug that is going into the inverter. It looks like a standard duplex outlet. In the center of the duplex is the GFI reset. My guess is it’s popped. If it hasn’t try and plug a trouble light, radio, or something else into the outlet and see if it comes on. I would almost be sure it’s the GFI but you need to get up there with a flashlight and check.

Turns out that the scorched wire from the battery had tripped the GFI on the inverter. With more examination, we found the GFI and was able to reset it.
