I have a 2017 Redwood 36RL that has the shower draining to the galley tank. This is the 3rd fifth wheel I have owned (second redwood product) and in the other 2 the shower drained into tank #3. We didn’t want a washer, so draining into tank #3 is only the bathroom sink. There isn’t anything in the literature that states this is the 36RL design and the dealer said he didn’t know it was plumbed this way. Crossroads support will not help and say that they just do that sometimes. I am open to suggestions, since I do like to utilize sites without sewer connections from time to time. I would like to replumb the shower, but I was told by customer support that this would void my plumbing warranty. The dealer would not make the change either for the same reason.

What most people do is install a gate valve at the sewer hose connection, and then open both gray tanks to equalize the levels. This is easy if you have a twist-lock connection. The valves are available from Amazon. It’s slightly more complicated if you have the Lippert Waste Master hose connection. There isn’t a valve fitting for it, so you have to plumb one in or connect the two tanks together further up stream as GipC suggested.

our 36 FL is the same way. As other suggested add an extra vavle before the outlet. Works well.

Thanks, To make matters worse, my gray tanks are at different levels. Since the galley tank is higher I’m in the process of trying to do a 3/4 fill of the galley/shower and then draining to the lower tank. I’ll then close the lower tank. If this works, I might try to work with that, but if not I guess I’ll attempt to replumb without any plumbing diagrams. The Keystone customer service said that I’m not allowed to see the diagrams. I’m guessing this is a new policy, since I had a couple of the diagrams for my Blackwood. I’m not sure I would have bought a new Redwood had I known there was no technical support available now.

We have tried to get copies of drawings to post on the website from every management group, but always receive the same reply - they are only released to approved dealers.

Have received some drawings, which are posted in the technical section, but from memory we haven't anything older than the model years 2012 to 2014.

36RL shower draining to galley tank 2 weeks 6 days ago #7

I'm new to the RV scene but I've had my 2012 for right at a year. Today I may have realized that my grey tank is running into my galley tank. I usually always have both tanks open but was flushing them out today and noticed that my grey tank wouldn't produce any water after I filled and tried to drain. I opened my galley tank and it was of course happy to be drained.
I have the final gate valve already on the trailer - is it recommended then to keep my grey and galley tanks open and use the final gate valve for dumping both at the same time?

We have a 2013 and almost all water goes into 1 tank, except the washer, which we don't have.

I installed an additional valve at the outlet and when parked I keep this closed, the black tank closed and both grey tanks open. Since both tanks are at the same level, they fill equally.

In the early RLs, and possibly all of them, the washer drains to one grey and everything else to the other. If you do have a washer on board and need to have the greys closed, this is actually a good thing.
I do a somewhat similar setup to Andy. I have the gate valve at the end of the dump. When we are setup with a sewer as we are now, the black is closed and both greys are open. We do have a washer and dryer so they get used almost daily. The day before I'm going to dump the black, I'll walk outside and close the gate valve on the dump end. That way both grey tanks are available so will equalize with grey water. In our case, two loads of wash and a shower or two and doing the dishes gives me a nice bit of water in the greys for flushing the lines the next day.

Works like a champ for over 6 years now ......

Below is the note I received from Joe Lazzarino when I asked the same question on my late build 2015 38RL..

Hi there! Hope all is well!

The washer will drain to the Grey tank... You are correct -the kitchen sink goes to the galley and everything else goes to the grey tank.

That being said, there is an overflow that will connect the two tanks to one another. In case one is completely full it will drain into the other tank so you can use 100% capacity.

I would just make sure that you are hooked up to a dump if you're running the washing machine.

Happy Father's Day and enjoy getting back to work tomorrow!

Thanks Joe - wasn't aware of that overflow between the grey tanks.

My '13 FB didn't have that feature (maybe the later models) the overflow was in the shower. The shower, washer & bath lavatory went into the grey tank & once full filled the shower floor, usually while I was showering. The kitchen sink alone went into the galley tank.
We were always connected to sewer so I never added the extra valve to utilize the galley tank space, also left the grey tank valve open til a day or 2 before draining tbe black, a couple showers & a washer load was plenty of hose rinse after draining the black.

My '12 36RL works as above. Kitchen sink to galley tank, toilet to black tank, everything else to the gray tank. No connection between the two grays.

Our 2013 36RL is also set up the same way as above. Without a dishwasher not much water goes into the galley tank!

**DISCLAIMER**

I usually have full hookups so the fact that they are saying that I have an overflow is only in their words.. I have NOT had to test out that theory . .

Hubby redid our plumbing so shower goes in the other tank. We don’t have a washer so this works much better.
