TOPIC: Gas tax by state

Gas tax by state 2 months 2 days ago #1

Found this interesting so thought I'd share. Sure glad we travel in TX and AZ during the winter. I already knew to fill up before going into CA, but now I'll add PA as a "fill before entering" state.

Add a 109 Gallon tank to the pickup bed, replace the existing 35 gallon tank with a 52 gallon tank. Add another 22 gallon saddle tank.

That's 166 gallons.

At 9 mpg, that should get you about 1500 miles. Enough to avoid the higher priced States in many cases.

Thanks for posting though. Can we find a current price per gallon US map?

Then in order to tow your 16-17k rv with any amount of water + over a 1000-1200 pounds of fuel you'll need a MDT or HDT to haul all of it.
I'd drive 500 miles out of the way to avoid California where EVERYTHING is too pricey. Unfortunately Washington is getting almost as pricey, but we have to go there, that's where 1/2 our grandkids live.

Actually, I must have put in a wrong number on the calculator...That would be 183 total gallons...

183 gallons x 6.943 lbs per gallon for Diesel = 1,270 lbs.

Pin Weight on our '14 38 GK = 3,750 lbs. (That includes full water, propane and loaded per Smart Weigh).

GVWR for my particular 2014 Ram 3500 = 14,000 lbs.

Truck Weight = 8,800 lb. + 2 Passengers and Fuel Tank = 9,400 lbs.

9,400 lbs + 3,750 lbs + 1,250 lbs = 14,400 lbs.

Yep...Just about be maxed out with full water. But we rarely (if ever) travel with full water. Usually less than 50 gallons. So we should be good.

Everyone would have to weigh their own situation.

Actually, that just gives me ANOTHER reason to move up the Ram 5500. GVWR = 19,500! Some Day...;)

Actually, I have to back out 32 gallons of Diesel...The truck was weighed with full fuel at the time. So I'd have to subtract 222 lbs. Still maxed out at 14,200 (+ or -)...

Actually again...The GAWR for the rear is 9,750 lbs. (for my particular truck).

At the time of weigh-in, the rear with full fuel (32 gallons), pin box weight, and passengers was 7,400 lbs.

Since the GAWR for the rear is 9,750 lbs., then adding 200 lbs. for the fuel tank and 1,050 lbs for the extra fuel, that puts the total at 8,850 lbs. Still good there...

Total for truck though is still maxed.

That's part of the reason I have my TV registered for 14,999, was going for 15K but Clerk said would be cheaper at the 14,999 vs 15K. So for less money I'll skip one pound.
