TOPIC: Southern Arizona RV suggestions? Yuma, Mesa, Phoenix or any other areas?

Southern Arizona RV suggestions? Yuma, Mesa, Phoenix or any other areas? 9 months 2 weeks ago #1

We are visiting family in Pacific Beach. On our way back to Texas we would like to visit a few RV parks in the Arizona area for a future winter home. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Karen and Ben

Are you looking for state/regional parks or commercial sites?

I would recommend Monte Vista RV resort in Mesa. We spent a month there back in 2015 and loved it. Clean, well maintained, your own garbage, electricity and water rates were reasonable, pool and hot tub were beautiful, nearby grocery store and lots of activities. Downsides are that the sites and roads are pretty tight. Neutral is the fact a vast majority of the sites are permanent cottage and bungalow style but residents were very friendly and welcoming. We were quite amazed being that this is an Encore Thousand Trails property.

Thanks! I've been looking and I just don't think I can handle the size of some of these places, just so crowded. I like a little more open space.

We are heading into Arizona in a few days on our way back to Canada following our winter in southern California. While we don't enjoy the busy aspect of Yuma, we will stop at the Palms for a few days, we've heard good things about it.

The Lazy Days KOA in Tucson is also a good stop.

We stay in Borrego Springs (The Springs at Borrego), it's about 3 hours north west of Yuma in the desert and an hour south of Palm Springs. Some folks have "sticker shock" on the price but it's a small commuity (3500 people) and good weather. Lots of golf if you are into it.

We have heard good things about Indian Waters around Palm Springs but we haven't stayed there.

We are in Picacho Peak Rv Resort between Tucson & Phoenix, very well maintained park, all rv sites were completely redone this past summer, entire park is RO water system which is a plus in this area, lots of activities, very reasonable prices compared to some others, if there's a draw back it's that it's 30-45 minutes in any direction to shopping, we liked it so much here we bought a modular home & a beautiful view of the peak.
Actually their annual fee is about what most charge for 3-5 months so lots of folks leave their rvs year round.

We are stopping at Casa Grande RV Resort. It is smaller than most of the Mesa parks and is a sister park to where we winter - Indian Waters RV Resort & Cottages, in Indio, CA

Yea Joe!
We workamped about half hour away last winter & came in to book a rv site for this season & the manager/sales lady took us around & showed us this house & it felt like home, we had absolutely no plans to buy, but here we are.
Andy, we're about 1/2 hour south, or east, of Casa Grande on I-10. Casa Grande rv park was our 2nd to stay if not able to get in here.

We just checked out Picacho Peak Rv and loved it. Casa Grande is a second choice. We like being out to enjoy the hiking and county. Yes it is a drive to shop, but I considet that an adventure to explore. thanks!

We stayed at that park a few years ago before the upgrade, it was close to the freeway and at that time the water had warning signs that it was undrinkable even after boiling, they must have installed treatment equipment.

If you want to be closer to the hiking trails (and farther away from the freeway) stay at the state park next door, but it has only electric, but has a dump site with water. Good for short stays.

We live in Arizona - I think you will enjoy your visit.
In Southern Arizona we discovered Patagonia Lake - beautiful (truly Southern Arizona) azstateparks.com/reserve/patagonia-lake/camping/ .

In the Phoenix area look for any of the Maricopa County Campgrounds, we are especially fond of McDowell Mtn Park (but all are great) maricopacountyparks.org/ All of their parks/sites have great pads, reasonable amenities and close to the city.

If they're planning the winter snowbird stay most state & county parks will only allow 14 days & if they are like the one next door here (Picaho state park) their sites only have 30 amp electric, no water or sewer at sites, dump station on the way out. As fulltimers moving every 14 days & having to cut loose to move & dump weekly doesn't appeal to us.
