TOPIC: Encore/Thousand Trails ROGroup Created

Encore/Thousand Trails ROGroup Created 8 months 2 weeks ago #1

I know a number of ROG members are also members of Thousand Trails and thought it would be helpful to have a TT/Encore ROGroup we can use to communicate about our TT experiences and a place to post questions.

To that end I've created the Encore/TT ROGroup. At the moment the ROGroup is a place to upload images and post reviews of your park stays. It is tied to the Travel Planning forum category but if people feel it would be helpful to move the discussions to a separate Forum category I can do that.

Safe travels

What is your take on Encore/Thousand Trails membership.
As we get closer to retirement and fulltiming again on our schedule we are investigating Encore/Thousand Trails membership and other camping memberships as an option.
I have heard many good and bad stories over the years.

Ken, thanks for doing this.

Rob,
We purchased a $500 zone membership the first year we retired, and I used that for planning our trip to the Pacific Northwest, Oregon and California coast. It easily paid for itself. When we got to Florida, I started hunting on Craigslist for an Elite membership for sale and found one near us. Found one for what I thought was a reasonable price and nominal annual maintenance fee. My only disappointment is that it is an older membership so doesn't include some of the newer TT acquisitions, so not all parks are available in my package. That's the only thing you need to be really careful about.

Others are far more experienced with TT, but for us it works out fairly well. I know Ken and Donna use TT almost exclusively and it works well for them. Wish there were more locations in the middle US for traveling purposes, but few people go to the center of the nation on vacation. We will again get our money's worth this summer with a trip up the east coast and over to UP Michigan.

We own our Florida RV lot, but when traveling I use the following options, in order:
Thousand Trails - free
Passport America - discount, usually 50%
All-Stays - no discount but great for finding a location. A lot of these offer Good Sam 10% discount. I never use Good Sam in planning; it's just a nice surprise if I happen to stay at a Good Sam park.

I am not interested in one of the new TT membership packages with a never-ending monthly fee that could be difficult to get out of. Our purchased package with an annual maintenance fee just works better for us budget-wise in retirement.
