Anyone install a residential fridge and inverter in a FL. ??? I have noticed some use the generator area for the inverter install but I have the onan 5500 generator on board. Space is a premium in the basement of these FL units. I'm going to install the 2000 watt CSW 2012 inverter and know the CSW TS15 transfer switch will be required and the fuses of course. Can the bank of 2 batteries that are presently on the coach be used or is it best to go to the sealed or lithium batteries? Anyone have any insight as to where you placed your inverter and how you wired it in to the system on a FL ?? I know on previous RVs Ive owned the batteries are charged by the tow vehicle when connected but not sure that is the case on this redwood.

We installed a basic solar system, which the dealer installed. Our 1500 PSW inverter was installed in the basement. They placed it on the fwd bulkhead, close to the top of the compartment and as far from the door as possible.

Yes it takes up some space, but I have been able to pack around it, while still maintaining ventilation, without loosing too much space.

We have a 2013 36FL

For batteries, I use 2 type 31 deep cycle lead/acid.

We found some hidden space behind the left (aft) bulk head in the basement. It's underneath the stairs going up to the FL area. Note we have a 38FL so your milage may vary in your 36FL.

Anyway, you could utilize that space to house the inverter and additional batteries. I don't know what your house batteries are but if you add more in this space they would need to be sealed, AGMs or Lithiums, given the limited ventilation.

You may also find, like in our 38FL, a power drop in the area which is used to power the vacuum. You could use that to charge any new batteries if you get a inverter/charger.

Also note the charge potential from the TV is fairly limited. The problem is the gauge wire from the 7 pin connector just isn't large enough to provide for ample current draw and a meaningful charge. You can get some charge to the house batteries from the TV but even that is pretty limited.

Hope this helps.

Ken thanks for the information. Did find the area under the steps and its perfect place for the inverter. Fished 2 new leads up to the breaker panel and installed a xantrex freedom Xi inverter 2000 watt. Changed to AGM batteries also. I have a moryde sliding tray in my basement so had to pull it out to work there and re-install. Was going to just have dealer install inverter until I heard $1200 just for the inverter plus 4 hours labor. $2000 for a $600 inverter was a little too steep for me. Thanks again for the info.

Glad it worked out for you.

How did you end up charging the batteries? Do you have an easy way to monitor the state of charge like a volt meter or something else?

Always like to hear how people do it.

I just upgraded the coach batteries to group 31 and AGM. Didn't add any extra batteries as all I'm using the inverter for is to power the fridge on the road. Will see how it goes as I have a cummins/ onan 5500 gen onboard also. I went with a xantrex freedom Xi 2000 watt inverter. It has a monitor you can remove and mount in the coach if you want. Has all the readouts on about any function or switching on the inverter you could want. Did a lot of research and thought that inverter was the best bang for the buck and 2 year warranty too. I did go as recommended from Xantrex with 2/0 awg wire as I'm just about a foot over the 5 foot limit for battery wire to inverter hook up. Used a 250 amp fuse inline there and my AC line still runs thru the coaches 15 amp breaker.

All sounds good to me. Hope you get many miles of fun usage out of it.

Any pics on the inside fridge install appreciated. Did you loose any cabinets above/below the fridge?
