I am considering replacing the Norcold 1210M in our 36RL and would like input on the following.

1. Which residential would you/have you chosen. Water and ice through the door would be nice but not essential.

2. Which model/size of inverter do you have. We don't do boondocking, so please take that into account. Is an inverter/charger better or just an inverter.

3. Have you attempted to resell the Norcold. Ours still works well, both on shore power and propane. Freezer just does not ever get cold enough for ice cream, plus interior is just not big enough. We spend at least 6 months in it over the winter, so that's important.

Thanks, Jim

Jim,

While we haven't started to actively investigate the replacement, will probably wait until it get closer to packing it in. However, I have given it some thoughts regarding your questions.

#1 - with our 36FL we will be extremely limited to choice, based on the size of the cabinet and exterior door width, as I don't wish to start tearing into the cabinets or taking windows out. I include a link to an interesting article when I was researching.

In our current house, we had to remove the fridge doors to get it inside the house and I would plan on that for the RV.

#2 - We have a 1,500 W pure sine wave inverter with the solar system. Some will say you require at least 2,000 W, but we have our residential fridge in a 15 amp circuit that also has other outlets. We also don't boondock and only travel 4 to 6 hours a day. At home we have power cuts that last longer than that, so if required we can leave it unpowered for a couple of hours without issue. Therefore, I am not planning on replacing our inverter.

#3 - I plan to try and sell it on Craigslist, the forum, etc. If not, I'll dispose of it at the recycle depot.

I have looked into this some and found that you can pick a frig by width height and depth, looks like a counter depth is what fits in our 36rl and its a 3 door 20 cu ft.
We decided to repair the rv frig, cost would be about the same and we like the freedom of not having to be on the grid. Good luck with your choice.
