6/23/15 I bought a new 38GK and will be doing a Disc Brake Conversion at the Rally on 8/6 starting about 9 am. I anticipate about 4 hours to complete. I will have some help so plenty of time to talk to you as you stop by.

I've been having a few challenges with our brakes since we bought our RV. But, I am beginning to think I am having an issue with the built-in controller on our Ram 3500. I've read several Ram blogs on this controller. I'll be taking my truck back to the dealer for warranty work soon anyway, so I'll have them check it out. It does not make any difference which settings I use. The maximum voltage at full braking power is only 6.4 volts.

Anyway, if we get to come (we have space reserved), I would like to stop by and watch this process. I've been reading an article in the latest Escapees magazine. They are providing estimates of $1,500-$2,000 plus another $800-1000 if you include labor from a shop. They also estimate 3 to 4 hours by a shop that specializes in this type of installation. It will be interesting to see what you experience for comparison.

What year Ram? I have a 2014 Ram 3500 that only put out 8.7v at the receptacle. I took it back to Dodge and there were no IBC updates byt there were some other electronic updates that had nothing to do with the controller but after these updates had 12v. So no more problems.
The Escapees Disc Brake conversion had 3 people on it. The typical conversion is an 8-10 hr. job based on 1 person.

MINE IS A 2014!!! :woohoo:

Well, thanks for the tip about the settings. I'll make an appointment to have that looked at.

I still like the idea of disc brakes on a future purchase or a retrofit for this one at a later date though...It will be interesting to see what it takes.

We're looking forward to meeting everyone! It would be nice to put a face to some of these blogs. (Although we recognize that many of you are not bashful about that!) :cheer:

A lot of you may know each other. We're going to have to guess unless you put your "CODE NAME" on the bumper! 😛

And it will certainly be good to know some folks at Redwood for sure!!!!!!

If you turned your info into Piper Guy you will have a sign with your screen name & actual name for placement at your rally site.

Didn't know anything about turning anything in.

We'll be in stealth mode I guess...

Hey, maybe we can make it a guessing game for fun! :silly:

Go to other forum & I think the original post was "rally signs" by piper guy, I believe he said he needed all names by 7/20 & you could pick it up when checking in. Very nice looking!

Went to the Dealership this morning...As expected, I have to come back, but at least he let me make an appointment (It seems I should have been able to do that over the phone. Car dealerships are just the worst to work with...).

The Service guy taking the "order" stated that he had not heard of this problem. I told him about the RAM blogs and stated to him that this is a known on and off issue since 2010. Seems that he aught read up if he wants to be a better service guy. But he was only about 25 or so, so I'm not surprised. It was probably his first day on the job.

I mentioned to him about your solution. He took a couple of notes. I don't know if that means anything, but we'll see next Tuesday. I really need the brakes to work better.
