Under the old forum there was a discussion concurring the possible contact of the rear of the pin box coming in contact with the bedrail. I am not able to access the old forum for some reason and I found nothing on the new forum. But I am having a bit of a problem with that now. The rear of the inbox where it connects to the Fifthwheel is scraping the rail of my bedcover. it is only scraping. I have changed hitches from a Airhitch to a B&W companion. While that solved some of my ground clearance issues I now am experiencing this. I have 11 inches of bedrail clearance. That should be more than enough. I have a Roto flex inbox. Question is this. If I convert to a Morryde pin box will that solve the problem? Will that give me more bedrail and ground clearance or less? I have owned multiply Fifthwheel RV's and never had to change from my Airhitch nor did I have this many stupid design problems. Seems to me that the length of the pin box is the issue.

Mark, I don't think the MorRyde will solve your issue. The problem lies with the design of the Lippert 1621 pinbox which is used by most manufacturers today. I have seen this issue on other brands as well. If you don't have a bed cover, then you maybe able to raise the hitch height in your truck and raise the pinbox by the same amount. That should take care of the issue.

I'm not sure I see your issue. With 11" of clearance (I wish I had that), there should be absolutely no issue.

Currently, I have the 2014 Ram 3500 Dually with just 6" of clearance. I use the B&W Companion Hitch and the 1621 pin box (TrailAire - Not made any more). I can't go any higher without a lift kit on the RV. I clear the bed in most circumstances but just barely. I have had 1 contact with the bed rail but I stopped at the moment of contact so no damage. Its an area for me to watch constantly. If I go higher with the lift kit on the RV, I'll probably be at 16'4" or more. That's not really a good idea due to standard bridge heights.

Wow! What would you do to add 3' of height, hope that 16'4" was a typo.

Is the hitch hitting or just the electrical box on the backside of the hitch, if so you can move it.

Yepper...my bad...I don't like using these tiny buttons on these phones. But I still stand behind the bridge concerns. I once passed under a bridge (at a very slow speed) that was 13' 3". Talk about never racking....Pull up 2". Check the height. Pull up 2". Check the height. Metaphorically speaking of course.

Not sure if it's related but in my case I note that on our unit I have to be careful when hitching/unhitching that I have to go fairly straight in, otherwise the back of the pin box would foul the edge of the fifth wheel tailgate, I don't recall this issue on our other 5ers.

I had the same issue as you when I installed the new flexor. The ears on the rear of the pinbox would catch my tonneau cover rail. I used a seawall and cut the ears off and no problem since. As Danny said if the electrical box for your cord is at the rear outside of the inbox, move it inside the pinbox

Shane Thank you. I considered doing just that. I will do this also and I am sure that will solve the problem. For some reason the part of my Forum which is Recent topics does not work. So i was not seeing the responses I was getting.
Thanks again
Mark
