I applied grease to all nine fittings on my Tri Glide about every 1000 miles and my Tri Glide still Failed, I thought I was going to loose my Redwood.
Sure am glad to be done with Lippet Axles, Brakes, Suspension and Pin Box, nothing but problems.
In a series of emails to a service tech at LCI I was told:
1. There is no problem with the TriGlide. The problem according to him is a lack of greasing by us as owners, primarily on the 3 fittings underneath. You know, the ones that are a b#%~* to get to.
My reply was what is the recommended maintenance schedule, how often should we grease?
His answer was there is no recommended schedule. It depends on climate and use. ??????
I asked how much grease we should put when we grease?
His reply was until FIRM.
Sounds like we are on our own on this one. No recommendations on how or when to grease kind of puts it on us. Guess I'll keep greasing every 3rd move, watch carefully and pray.
I greased my Triglide since day one and it still failed. At the national rally last summer I quizzed the Lippert representatives about the banging noise of the Triglide. They claimed there was no problem with the Triglide although they were no longer retailing the unit. Furthermore, they told me three things to reduce the banging noise. The first is to grease all nine fittings on a regular basis. The second is to synchronize the brake controller in the tow vehicle so that the trailer and tow vehicle slow down at the same rate when braking is applied. The third bit of advice was to avoid Jack rabbit starts and hard braking.
Even if I had a brand-new Triglide I would call Lippert and change the lower jaw. The consequences of a total failure are not worth waiting for a problem to develop.

Same here in most cases...But I think we are both still stuck with the framing...
If they are replacing the faulty lower jaw with the fixed pin jaw we are getting the shaft, the TriGlide was an upgrade option, they should be replacing it with something that's equal to the option not the standard ole pin, like the lower jaw of the Flex Air or at least full credit from the TriGlide towards the Flex Air.

My unit was 3 months out of warranty and Crossroads told me they couldn't do anything about it. So I contacted Lippert who said that it was out of their warranty, but would send me the fixed plate lower jaw.
Remember, it is Lippert that is replacing the lower jaw, and not Redwood, so the extra we paid for the Tri-Glide is not really their issue.

I tried that but Lippert would give me no credit for the replacement Air Ride jaw and said I had to pay the full retail price for the Flexair jaw. I agree we are getting screwed over but we don't have much leverage.
I gave up arguing with Lippert and trashed the 18K Tri-Glide and 20K Reese Hitch and put on the 24K Mor/ryde Pin Box and 24K Comfort Ride Hitch. Yes, expensive change, but the Super Improved Towing change was worth every penny.
Agreed. I did the same and no regrets. Now have more than 4000 miles pulling with the MorRyde pin and the Comfort Ride Hitch. Nothing moves around in the coach, the ride in the entire rig is great and absolutely no clunks, bangs or slop in the hitch. And it takes all of about a minute to hook up..
I also gave up arguing with Lippert... That's why I contacted Etrailer and purchased my Flex-Air from them.
Interestingly enough, they sold it to me for the SAME as Lippert's RALLY SPECIAL PRICE and I did not have to pay shipping...
I reached out to Lippert to see what else they could do, and was told nothing, so I purchased it from ETrailer and received it in a few days, and paid NO shipping or tax . .
BTW , that cost was the every day low advertised cost on the ETrailer website, they were not running a sale.
I decided to upgrade my TrailAir to the MorRyde pin box before I even read this thread. Got tired of the clanging, greasing and needing to manage the airbags.
I ordered it about 2 weeks ago and go into service tomorrow to get it installed. Now I just hope I make it to the service center (20 miles away) with out any issues - 😉

Ken - you'll like the MorRyde. No more banging and clanging, at least from the pinbox, and the ride is good.

I'm going to get the 8K MorRyde IS installed just before the rally this summer, and am now very much considering replacing our Trail-aire with the MorRyde pin box. You really feel that good about it?
Hi Jim
Will be good to see you and Mary again !
I'm totally happy with the MorRyde and the ride in general. I'm probably not the best judge of it though as I also changed my hitch at the same time and got rid of the 25k Reese that clanged and banged and at times was a PITA to hook up. Michelle also did the same and I know she is happy with it.
Probably the best to ask would be Rob. He change the pinbox from a TriGlide to the MorRyde when he did his 8k IS last year but kept the hitch the same.
Gotta tell you, I like not dealing with the airbag.
Lippert is ridiculous about blaming the owner. We had stairs that were rusting. They told us that isn't possible. Really! We have rust. They told us we weren't do proper stair maintenance. 🙁
Why would you want to replace it ?
