Good News!

While waiting for the dealer to complete pre-delivery repairs on our 31SL, I expressed concern about the Tri-Glide pin box, and sent them the descriptoin of the problem that is posted in the technical library. The dealer said he hadn't heard of the issue, but would see what he could find out.

Well, he contacted RW, and they are going to replace it with a Flex Air. He also apologized for not being up to date on the issue. I feel like we have defused a time bomb...all due to the postings on this forum. Thank you all...

Now we just need RW to deliver the materials for the dealer to complete the rest of the repairs so we can start enjoying our purchase.

That is good news... Surprising that RW jumped like that. Good For you, I am sure you will love the Flex air.

My close friend just purchased a 31 SL from a dealer in Los Banos, California. On my advice my friend questioned the reported problems of the Triglide pin box and gave the dealer information from this ROG website. The dealer agreed to replace the Triglide pin box with a Flexair pin box and that consummated the sale.

BTW, a local RV service company came to my site in San Diego and replaced my Triglide pin box yesterday with a Flexair pin box provided by Lippert. The Triglide had failed and I was stuck in the RV park. Lippert was very good about making things right and I have no complaints with their response.

Thank you for personalizing a benefit of being a member of ROG. It also makes it feel worthwhile to the volunteers carrying on the work.

I see you have a 2012 RW. Did you have to pay for the new pin box or was it covered under your 5 year warranty?

Redwood was not in the loop. I complained to Lipppert and they provided the replacement at no charge. My Glide plate was broken and the trailer could not be safely moved. They were short of repair parts (new lower jaw assembly) for the TriGlide and game me a complete new Flexair pin box to get me back on the road.

Shane,

We pulled over the hill to the desert in Borrego Springs today. Rain, dense fog, mist most of the way. 73 dF and sunny in the dirty desert! Loved the lack of banging, clanging, grinding of the new Flexair. It' a winner.

Since you had the TriGlide...

How is the comparison between the TriGlide (when it was new) against the new FlexAir?

Other than design (age and issues with the TriGlide), are they basically the same "feel" when towing? Or is there really a difference?

MY OPINION -

There was no comparison, the flex air was hands down a better ride.... the benefits of air, and the movement of rubber with no slop, or banging.. and no worrying about greasing all 9 ports...

That is only MY opinion...

Thanks Joe.

I'm thinking of continuing on with the TriGlide for the while longer, but if enough concur that there is a significant difference (beyond the issues reported), I might have to consider it. I don't mind greasing the pins. So far, everything has gone well. I don't notice any "bounce" or "chuck". I have not had any issues. And, at the moment, I have a "spare" thanks to you. 😉 Did you pull with the TriGlide far before you gave it up?

We have 25,000 + miles on our tri-glide, with no issues so far. However, after having seen Terry's, I will be inspecting it daily.

Gregg,

The TriGlide had a few thousand miles on it... and by no means was it failing that I know of... It just felt sloppy... very sloppy. I was coming from a Fifth Airborne Pin Box on my SOB... It was to the point that when we would start or stop, my wife would hold an and say " here if comes"

If you can salvage the air bag and the shock off that unit I sent you, I think you would be in great shape..

How is everything on the Road ?
