I would like to get an Android GPS app that shows truck routes. Any suggestions. Our RAM has a GPS, I generally follow along with Google on my Android phone. But I would love to have an app that would give height limitations. We have the Truckers Atlas, but I would love an app.

I don't know of an App other than the one Good Sam's has...

However, when we travel, I give the Trucker's Atlas a once over...I write down any bridges that I need to be aware of (by State).

I keep my eyes open for any potential low bridges. Usually it's too late anyway...The Highway Department doesn't have enough money apparently to put up LOW BRIDGE signs up in advance. They like to wait until you get there and can't turn around.

We recently attended the Redwood Rally in Indiana. There, NO bridges are marked! What's up with that? I guess it doesn't matter once the snow starts flying...The piles add up and the markings would not be correct anyway. Why bother?? :S

Fortunately thus far, we have not experienced anything except a low canopy at a State Park in Texas. It was 13' 3". Our rig is/was 13' 2"...Had to move very slowly. backing up was not an option.

BE SURE TO READ THE PERMISSIONS! What an eye opener!

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sixdays.truckerpath

Version 1.64.0 can access:

precise location (GPS and network-based)

It is SHOCKING the permissions that most of the Smartphone apps require. Short of going back to a flip phone, I don't know that we have a choice. Google probably knows what I had for breakfast. 🙁

I hear ya! 😉

Our contract with ATT is up in December. We're going back to basics with flips... :woohoo:

No more text overcharges, junk fees, overpriced service, broken $600 telephone, $80 cases to half ___ protect your $600 phone, no more junk mail, junk texts, etc... 👿

We're tired of $100 a month.

Heck, we might even go back to snail mail...

GipC,

Perhaps most members don't understand what you are posting here. Agree something we all need to be aware of and good to know. Perhaps a little explanation may help.

GipC,

Perhaps most members don't understand what you are posting here. Agree something we all need to be aware of and good to know. Perhaps a little explanation may help.

It's kinda like you want to buy a new car. Only in order to get one, you constantly have the NSA tracking your every move (without actually telling you, but it will be at the back of page 300 in fine small print) and then selling off that information to who knows who...Then, they also can cause you to crash when you least expect it by taking over the car. Who knows...Maybe they don't like you!

A lot of people are not used to reading the fine print (Permissions) on these APP's. By signing up for many of the APPs, you're basically giving up your birth rights (by giving them permission to take control of your telephone behind your back) without even knowing it. Pictures can be taken on the fly. Voice frequencies can be recorded. They can look through your phone directories to see who you talk with. They even can tell when you are home and when your are not and more. It's like having a drone over you 7/24). The smooth part is that these APPs can actually be very powerful and useful tools (there's the magnet  . I gotta have it. It looks fun!).

When I first got my "Smart Phone" (which turned out to be dumber than I thought), I spent a lot of time reading through all of those fine print items and trying to figure out how to shut down all of the spying networks. Not only are they spying on you, they are also draining your batteries dead. Thus far, I have not downloaded any APPs based on what I have seen and there are still programs which cannot be shut down (thanks Android and the Smart Phone makers. The only thing smart about them is their ability to spy and take control).

Let's just say that when you work in some types of "jobs", you are taught and learn about how some less than scrupulous minds work. And like Forrest Gump says, "that's all I'm going to say about that".

ANYTHING that has to do with Google (APPs or Programs) will be scooped off the top and saved FOREVER. Your 20th generation Great Grand kids will get to see what you looked at or read about - for a fee). Most APPs are doing the same kind of thing. Yahoo scrubs their servers clean every 90 days or so - or so they say).

Some of you don't mind. That's OK. I'm not judging. But it is yet ANOTHER reason I'm going back to basic phones...besides, it's cheaper...

OK...I'm off the soap box now. Sorry if anyone got offended. I didn't mean to...Anyone have a flip phone for sale? :silly:
