Do you just hook the co axle cable directly to the cable IN port ??

I have used my Dish account with my Redwood for nearly 6 years. When I purchased my RW, I had a RoadTrip Mini-Max dish mounted on the roof. The dealer technician cabled the dish into the area behind the TV. I purchased a Dish 211 receiver and added it onto my home account (Dish Top 250) for $7. per month. I receive the same programming on that receiver as my home receiver. It has worked well everywhere from Florida to Washington State. The only issue I have had is that with the roof mounted dish, there have been a few times where trees blocked the signal. Some folks use a portable dish so they can move it around to get a signal. My longest stay has been in Florida and where we go, I have a clear view of the sky so the roof mounted dish works well.
I use the dish RV pay as you go and love it! I have the the tailgate model that is self finding and has HD programming. The other services do not offer HD with the tailgate carry out models. I had problems with the camper wiring getting the signal but added a new cable under the slide straight into the entertainment center now works perfect. I chose the carry out model instead of roof mount because you will not always have a clear sight to the satellite. The only worry with carryouts is theft, most campgrounds are safe but there is always a thief lurking. They make many ways to secure the and easiest being a cable and lock through the handle.......... I have been looking for a nice ladder mount for those times when the camp spot is open to the satellite. While you are using the service it's full price but when you are not they reduce the fee to minimal $10-12 month which is perfect unless your a full timer.
We have a roof dish but never turn it on. I wish they offered a day for day service but they don't. The minimum payment is 30 days regardless. Local channels have been just fine for the most part. Even then, we enjoy outdoors more than the TV.
We have the Winegard TRAV'LER satellite antenna (actually auto pointing reflector to be specific, but won't go there) and love it!
We have DISH service at our SnB and we also get the "extra room" price of $7 to activate it when we travel.
They will tell you that you have to have the 211 receiver to make this work but that is just not true. We have a Gen-2 Hopper and it works fine, more than fine. Adding the Joyee in the bedroom was a bit tricky, but none the less works fine.
With regards to the locals, by experience I've learned the spot beams generally works in about a 250 mile radius and we normally pull about 250-300 miles/day. So let's say I start a 1,000 mile 4 days pull as example, after the day 1 pull I'll call up and give them my day 2 zip code as my service location. That is 500 miles from my starting point and 250 miles shy of my end point.
Stay with me here, but being 250 miles short of the 500 mile (second night) stop let's me pick up the locals on the first night of my 4 day pull and keep it until I reach my destination.
So for those that want national news, or other national station programming, you need to call Technical Support (yes not customer service) and have them change the Service Location to have access to the ABC, NBC, CBS stations to get them. If that is not of interest then you need do nothing to move across the lower 48 in my experience.

Ken,
Well said and you have illustrated my exact experience with dish. We too travel with the hopper and joey.
One tip I can share is that I never call to change my address. I use dish's online chat feature. Using my dish pin, they pull my account info right away and send a signal for the locals. I have the "r" and "s" numbers saved in my notepad so I just paste the in the chat to make it simple for the tech.
BTW, I also only use technical support never customer service. The tech department understands RV's

Ok we are getting close to making a decision on getting it or not. . I have 2 satellite connections in my convenience center, can I ASSUME 1 goes to the entertainment center, and 1 to the bedroom ?
Also, there seems to be a few orange cables, should I ASSUME that 1 is for the feed from the roof, and 1 for the feed from the convenience center?
And Hailwiz touched on something . . Security for the portables... do you lock them to something ?
Joe,
Yes, one is for cable, the other is for satellite to the entertainment center, one to the bedroom
My rig has 3 orange cables in the entertainment center
One from the convenience center
One from the roof
One to the outside tv
These are done this way as satellite can't use splitter.
My rig was wired differently that the diagram supplied by Redwood. When I asked them why, I was told that the diagram was not rig specific, whatever that means! My diagram is attached.
I have locked the portable in certain situations in some RV parks. Most of the time I don't. Now I rarely travel with it as I use a tripod and standard dish.
Ken
Thanks Ken ,
My inputs are pictured below . . I think I will pick up a tone and probe kit from HD to make sure these wires are as stated.. Sounds pretty simple, Thanks for the help
Joe,
My living room feed is the left satellite. Testing will confirm.
Ken
Thanks Ken, I will get a tone probe tomorrow and mess around with it . . How do you get satellite on the outside TV ? A third box ?
Joe,
I use a wireless Joey. There are other options, the wireless Joey seemed the easiest to me.
