Debbie,
I'm not sure of your connections on your rig however, here is what you need to know.
Satellite requires direct wiring from your antenna (Winegard) to your receiver. There can't be any splitters. So you need a direct run from the antenna to your bedroom receiver and one to your living room receiver.

You might be best off getting a coax tester to 'buzz' out your wiring. Home depot sells one: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Klein-Tools-VDV-Coaxial-Explorer-Plus-Tester-VDV512-058/202520424

They also have a single tester that's about $10 less.

Understand too that your Winegard dish is NOT capable of accessing different satellites at the same time, therefore you can't watch different channels on the 2 TV's at the same time unless they are on the same satellite.

Hope that helps.

Ken

We have a roof-top Winegard Trav'ler for Shaw Direct. When in Canada our dish picks up 2 Shaw satellites, so we have 2 cables run direct from the dish to the LR and 2 cables to the bedroom. Therefore, we have 4 cables coming from the dish. We did not use the Redwood pre-wired sat cables.

To use our PVR receiver, it requires feeds from 2 satellites, so technically we can use the PVR in the LR or bedroom, or both if we brought 2 PVR's. In the bedroom, we currently only have a non-PVR receiver, which only requires signal from 1 satellite.

I suspect the US systems should be fairly similar, so if you want to use a PVR receiver in the bedroom, you will require 2 feeds direct from the dish. If you only have a basic receiver, 1 feed direct from the dish is OK.

As we are currently in SoCal, we can only receive 1 sat, so can only use our basic receiver. Without the 2nd satellite, we can't use our PVR receiver.

Similar to Shane, having multiple receivers, we can watch different channels in each room.

Andy,

I’m only familiar with Dish, US, not DirectTV. Dish traveler/hopper uses as solo node. It has 2 cables to the Lnb (antenna). On the output side, there are two, one for the host (hopper), one for a Joey.

I ran the 2nd output to the bedroom to a wired joey that allows full functionality, Dvr and multiple satellite input.

I use a wireless joey for the outside tv.

I’m certainly not familiar with Shaw and US restrictions, but I have full capabilities at all TVs

Ken,

With only 1 cable connected to your receiver can you watch 1 channel while recording another?

Andy,
Yes, I can record 3 channels. I also feed OTA locals via a usb adapter from the bat wing antenna. I can only record 1 OTA at a time but the satellite gives me 3.

As you can see from the diagram, only one coax goes to the Hopper. The hopper has 3 tuners. VIP 211 for instance only has one tuner.

I upgraded to the Hopper 3 to get 16 tuner availability. Solo Node now becomes a solo hub and only a single cable coming from the dish itself. One cable from the hub to the Hopper, and another to the Joey(s). All three of my TV's run off the Winegard Travel'r and all three have independent channel selection as well as HD signal.

Jim,
I almost used one of the solo hubs but I had a solo node and an older Hopper so I kept things the same. Nice clean install and I do like eliminating one coax to the dish. BTW, Andy, the solo node is mounted on the roof only a few feet from the dish. The single cable, one each for the living room and one for the bedroom comes off the solo node.

Ken - our systems at home and on the coach are completely different. We have 4 cables coming from the dish, straight to the receivers.

I can tell from being in the Sat install business (Small Independent Dealer) for many years there are lot of variables out there now. Receivers and LNB's have changed from voltage switching to the new frequency stacking for each brand of Sat provider out there. All the newer systems are all Freq. stack design now so One cable can provide multiply receiver support for PVR and other feeds. The older voltage switching LNB's would not let that work to multiply Rcvr's. SO knowing what Receiver to what type LNB is critical for smooth operation, whether it is one set or multiply sets with PVR's. Then Add in that Satellite providers are now spot beaming signal distribution and that makes receiving some signals at some regions a thing of the past. Bell Canada for example, and Shaw Canada also has done on the new 3 rd Sat they put up in the last 2 years. Rumours has it that Shaw may also replace the other 2 satellites this year to also make it impossible to get there signal in the US soon after??? No official word on that yet. Just my 2 cents on why some may work fine and others have issues. Know what your Receiver needs for a proper LNB configuration and things will go much smoother for you. Please do not ask me if so and so Receiver will work with so and so Dish. Go to the Dish manufacture for what systems they support. Most RV Dishes are supporting a wide range of systems. The fixed head home dishes are the ones that will cause and lot of frustration when trying to figure which one will work with each other. As somebody also pointed out, be sure your feed is a clean cable run with no splitters. Testing that prior will save you lots of headaches.
Sorry for the long and maybe to techy reply!! I will at the ROG Rally for QA or to help you if I can.
