TV - New Trick Worth Trying - Sound Volume During Movies
Well...Here is a new one on me...
Reading an article today, it has been pointed out that there are different "volume" settings built into TV's that utilize Dolby sounds.
Have you ever noticed that while watching a movie that the volume gets out of hand? One part of the movie, you can barely hear the voices. You turn it up only to hear the loud explosions nearly tear your house apart and make you deaf.
In this article, Mike Sorgel (audio expert trained in Dolby technology) gives you a possible solution to keep the volume at a constant level. I'm certainly going to give it a try. You might also try it and report back your experiences.
You'll have to read down past the article to get to the COMMENTS section:

I'm not so worried/bothered by the movie volumes as I am the damn commercials!! Once we have the movie volume to our liking a commercial comes on & blast you into your seat, lower the volume, 2nd commercial & BAM! louder than the 1st one, then back the movie & can't hear it. Yes both of us are a bit hearing impaired from age, but when they have a setting that automatically mutes all those blaring commercials (rephrase that, all commercials), sign me up I want one.

I tried changing my settings last night while watching movies. It rained all day yesterday.
The "Night" setting help some. It was worth the change. I still had to adjust a few times but a lot less than normal for sure.
Now that I am aware of the various settings, I'll try a few more modes.

We second that , I never noticed at first since I'm not a big tv person but wife keeps talking about the commercials getting so loud , now I notice when I'm in other room. I think they want to make sure you can hear that commercial
"I know people" at a major network....
It seems that the network is not directly in charge of the sound volume of TV commercials. That is done in the recording studios of commercials with the sound boards.
There is evidence (so they think) that most individuals will pay more attention to their commercial if the sound is elevated. All they do for me is make me hit the "mute" button for all commercials or turn off the TV entirely.
Now for home movies, it seems that they do the same thing. For that, I turn the sound off and walk away until all the advertising is complete. You can't fast forward your way through unfortunately.
So it appears that the only way to protest this is to stop buying their products and send them a letter stating your intents until they turn down the volume. How many take that step?
Hey!....Another business opportunity...
Many car radios have a similar feature when driving down a freeway instead of an in town street. The radio automatically adjusts to louder background noise. One can't say this can't be done...
