Getting Ready for Full-Timing...

Well, the time has finally arrived to start the "down-sizing" officially...We'll attempt to get in on the front side of the baby-boom bust coming soon...At present, it is reported that baby-boomers are retiring at a rate of 10,000 per day.

I suspect housing prices will fall like a rock when the season gets going good.

Our "Estate Sale" has been set for this weekend. Our house is tentatively sold by a new source. We'll let talk about that if it goes through....

Thanks for all of the past suggestions for how to off-load. This method will be the fastest for sure. We'll talk about the "experience" shortly.

We already have a site that we're in until all of this is resolved. That was interesting... Try cramming 3500 SF into 400 Sq Ft and see what you get!

Talking soon!

Congratulations, GipC. Very happy for you. Having just done this in June, you may find that you have more stuff than you can feasibly take. I stored most of my tools - couldn't stand to get rid of them. And we decided that any clothes we haven't worn in a year will get tossed next year. Best advice we got: take half the stuff and twice the money you think you need.

Are you kidding? It adds ballast to the truck. And when I need it, it will like a nice soft blanket. I'll just have to find some brave help to try and get it attached! Are you in? 😉

AND...You can't wait! We're not get'n any younger (maybe prettier though).

Do the math...Sticks and Bricks or the RV...I just hope no one else finds out about this.... 🙁

For those looking for options, the estate sale seems very reasonable...They bring in crews of 8-10 unless you own a mansion. Then more...You would not believe all of the crap that you have once you drag it all out. I counted the tables they brought in. So far...38. There is stuff everywhere! Above and below. And we are not rich by any stretch of the imagination.

The company charges are steep but when you think of the time it saves (and work), its worth it at 30%. 1 week and its done.

Some charge 35-40%.

But they are also able to take checks and credit cards at there expense and gamble.

I made a list on a spreadsheet. We'll see how it turns out in the end...

I'm in Greg , find your way to the Easy Coast and I'll help with the pinbox swap...

I agree with all that , but since I am only 52 and my wife is 25, it will be hard to say we are not getting younger!> 🙂

Day one of the Estate Sale...

RAIN! Ugggg!

A few things went but its hard to tell anything went away!

Day 2...Today...A bright and sunny day. Our town is not all that big. About 25000 in a 4-5 radius. We'll see how today goes....

Day 7 in the RV...Lesson learned...Don't leave the refrig and HW heater on propane. Got a cold shower today. Switched all over to electric. That should do it. Went thru 1 tank this week.

Lesson learned number 2...

The shower grey tank fills up quickly with 4 living inside. Have shoes and keys ready so that you can go outside and empty the tanks when they get full. Hopefully it won't be raining when you discover this...

Lesson 3...

Since moving in, we had to quickly learn how to organize. When downsizing from 3500 sf to 1600 sf to 400 sf, you'll initially think there is a lot of stuff you can't do without. If you are going to do this, understand and accept that a lot of things HAVE to go. But there is a sense of freedom as you let others handle that for you.

Lesson 4...

Rain...When there is a thunderstorm, you're gonna know it. You'll have to get used to a lot of loud noises. Don't think you're just gonna sleep thru it!

More to come...

Leave the bath gray valve open til a,day or so before draining the black.
We love to hear the rain while sleeping & if you think that's loud wait til your first hail storm.
The water heater & the furnace are huge propane hogs. Are you not hooked up to 50 amp, if so why on propane.

Not on 50 Amp yet. Just 30. All parks around here are full and have waiting lists. We've been promised 50 A soon though.

Don't mind the gentle rains. But the downpours are like driving 80mph in a rain storm. You can't hear the person next to you...

Get a Valterra twist on gate valve for the dump end of the system so that you can open both of the greys and let them equalize. Will give you more grey capacity.
Also like Danny said, leave the grey open till the day before dumping black.

We have been on 30 amps about 50% of this trip. Still use fridge and water heater on electric. This allows lights, etc and 1 appliance - microwave/kettle/toaster/fireplace/heat pump. If we need to use 2 appliances we turn off the water heater, while using the 2nd appliance.
