We have 38RL. Has anyone had any issues with the back window latch breaking? The bottom latch on our back window has now broke 2 different times. We are thinking about chalking the window closed. It's the original EXIT window that the ladder prevents from opening.

The first time it broke we caught it when we were checking lights before pulling out. We used a very critical tool--Duct Tape, to fix it until we got to the next stop. The window just flops without the latch. We're afraid we are going to end up with a broken window in addition to the broken latch.

I have a new latch for ours. I have it wired with bailing wire and do not plan on putting the latch on anytime soon. The sofa breaks it when travelling

1) Why would anyone put that window directly behind the ladder? If that was the only way out, you wouldn't stand a chance.

2) Ours is behind the couch as well. I think its been open twice. Ever...The window height needs to be about 3" shorter before it would be of any value. We all like as much glass as possible but the way it is, it's not going to work out.

The escape window is at the back on the right hand side. That is why the ladder is a non issue

We've had a latch break twice. Held it together with a zip tie until taking it to Redwood Rally for fixing. Was told that it was designed to break to keep the window from breaking. I guess there is some flex to the unit while traveling? Our sofa has NOT been an issue with the latch breaking.

We decided if the latch broke again (we were given spares) we would just use the zip ties, as we do not open that window at all.

We asked about the ladder being in the way of the exit window; and we were told that government regulations required labeling of the exit window, but since they moved the emergency exit window to the right of the sofa next to the slide, they were still in compliance and the exit window on the back of the unit is 'extinct', so to speak.

Sorry I should have clarified, RW told us the original plan was to have this window be the Emergency Exit window. Then there was a plan change and they made the side window an EXIT window. So they absolutely provided a safe exit, in the event we couldn't get the 20 feet to the front door.

Wire it shut & forget about it, after 2 broken handles I quit replacing it, I do have a new one though not installed.

I replaced ours a few weeks ago after having the window closed with stove pipe wire for about 6 months.

The replacement latch I got from Lazy Days is plastic (rubber?) where it's pop riveted to the window. Maybe this gives more flex to prevent future breaks.

The latch broke because the Sofa bed hit it when it rocked about in transit. I have subsequently anchored the bed.

Another RW owner had the other rear window opener (round handle) destruct because of damage from the sofa hitting it.

Somehow encouraging that others have had the same issue. Think our original plan to seal the window may be our best bet. Doesn't sound like another latch is going to be a permanent solution.

Went to the Dallas RV Show this weekend....

Not sure, but it looks like Redwood moved the window up higher (at least on this 39MB model). It actually cleared the couch. I wonder if they did that on all of the models?

The couch even had a higher back on it.

It made for a shorter "viewing pleasure", but it made it a lot easier to get the window open and there is no chance of a handle breaking...

It would depend on if you have the big or small back window. We have a 15 MB with the small window. I think 15 and newer have the small window. You can see the difference at the rally when the different years are lined up. Our couch would have to bounce up about 3 inches to get the latch.
