I know that this problem has come up before but I cannot locate it on the forum. While on the roof repairing a leak at the rear air conditioner I noticed there was a crack in the sealant where the front cap Attaches to the roof. The crack was approximately an eighth of an inch wide and eight or 9 inches long. On closer examination I could see that the front cap Had pulled away from the roof in the area where the sealant was being stretched and the crack opened. When I placed my foot on the top edge of the cap I could press the cap back down tight against the roof.
I seem to recall that there is some type of a joining method used to attach the top of the cap To the roof of the RV. It involves screws and some type of metal trim. While I am awaiting warmer weather to remove the sealant I am wondering if anyone has experienced this and could describe the repair. I filled the crack area with additional caulk as a temporary repair.
Terry,
Is the vinyl also pulling out from the cap? We had to replace the screws on the termination bar at the front cap. Several of the screws the heads had come off the screws entirely. We had to do a lot of screw replacement on our roof.

Can't say yet. The seam is buried under a glob of putty. I need some warm weather to remove the putty and see how the cap is connected to the roof.
There should be a metal strip connecting the Alpha material to the front cap with several screws, from experience most will have been overtightened & broke off or stripped out, probably you'll have to add more screws, be sure to use stainless, of I recall I used #12 × 1" or 1 1/2".

Get yourself one of these scrappers...They work WONDERFULLY! And they won't tear anything up. Just go slow. It's time consuming.
