Anyone know what the weight capacity is in the generator cargo area on a 2016 - 36RL? There doesnt seem to be any support on the underside!
Thanks

Don't think they specify actual capacity. Our Onan 6500 watt Geny is around 300 lbs. When the generator was installed they welded some small angle iron strips under the floor of that area to stiffen it up. Just adds some more pin weight to the already heavy pin weights of our Redwoods.

Thank you for the info, I knew the storage area is pre-wired for onan generator hook up and approximate weights. Good to know they added extra support. We do not dry camp very much and if so usually cooler weather, so we just carry a smaller generator for back up or emergancy, but with extra LP. Tank, generator, and extra gas hoses, it's starting to get a bit heavy in that front storage area.
Probably should add some support to the underside.

Ya, we installed our 5500 Onan in 3 5th wheels, and Redwood was the only one that didn't have any kind of C-channel or something in there for support. I was a bit shocked. We took our chances and dropped it in there as designed (298 lbs) and it held for the few years we had the Redwood, but if you can add supports it sure wouldn't hurt.

Add the support...

I've discussed adding the 8000 watt diesel generator with Redwood. They suggested adding supports for that for sure since it weighed 420 lbs.

If you are under 200 lbs, your probably good with distributed weight. Point loads would likely be questionable though...

You could add a 3/16" aluminum plate in the bottom to help the load distribute and then you may not need the additional support straps.

Yep, think it needs somekind of support. Especially if you ever run the 41 miles of Hwy 287 through OK pan handle!
Thanks for the info..

Ii had the Onan 6500 installed back in June, I have not seen ANY difference in the compartment sagging. The steel plate the generator sits on seams to be just fine. There is no noticeable sagging.

Boy is that a fact! We brought our brand new Redwood home that way from Texas to Colorado on the advice of some rally group at the campground in Canton. I just new when I got through my new Redwood would be in pieces but it somehow survived.

Our generator bay was prep'ed for a gen. Our Onan 6.5KW unit was a nice fit with room left over. With the addition of the gen, 2-40 propane bottles, washer, dryer, two 980 AH heavy duty 12 VDC batteries, DirecTV satellite dish and dishwasher I changed our TV to a 3500 dully long bed. The GCWR is now under spec a small amount while the previous SWD was was seriously over loaded. I made the classic mistake of sizing my first TV to the sicker on the frame of the RW and not planning for the huge increase to the tongue weight. Going by the sticker posted inside by the tank level indicator panel would have been better. A hard (aka: expensive) lesson. Since the change the Titan brakes and 17.5" H-rated tires have increased the load a little more and increased my peace of mind exponentially.
