Roof Bubbles and Nails Sticking Up...
For the last week or so, I have been working with Redwood discussing the above.
In fairness, Redwood took the time to write and call back. They offered technical support but nothing else.
Facts:
2014 38GK
Manf in April 2014
Warranty: None
The unit (since we have owned it) has been in storage 90% of the time until we moved in about 2 or 3 months ago.
From front to back on both sides, the aluminum half-round nails on top have popped up. Some as much as a 1/2" or more. I'm worried at the moment about roof leaks if they penetrate but I am keeping a close eye on it.
From front to back, the roofing material has come loose from the decking. Either the glue is defective or the application was not sufficient. Therefore, the roof is bubbling up about 12" in from the edge.
From front to back, the materials have significant air bubbles all thru the center area.
At this point, I ask...Would you expect your roof materials to be doing the same thing?
What is the point of putting on a 10-15 year roof if the glue only last 3-4 years?
We understand the warranty is expired. But really, should we be experiencing this?
Thanks in advance for your response, experiences and suggestions.
At this point, it's probably not wise to attend the Rally until/unless I can get it repaired soon.
I'll attach pictures as soon as I get access to a computer...
Pics...
GipCTravelers, Can you send me a PM please??
Thanks Chris

They should be posted now.
Sorry...PM...Not PICS...I need a new prescription 😉
It's going to be a fight but to me that is 100% structural so keep on that 2+5.
Roof plywood is far to thin to start with as we all know by walking on it and staples lifting are either because they missed the rafter/nailer or most likely the plywood was so poor of grade that the staples cracked the ends and there is nothing to hold.

Greg,
My 2016 roof ( manufactured in June 2015 ) looks identical to that... i called, and sent pics to both the dealer and Redwood. Everyone who got the pics responded that they look to be normal bubbles.
I also had staples popped up that I noticed the end of last year. The dealer repaired about a 6' section, and i asked what if the balance of the edging does the same thing, and they told me that it is noted in my file that I had the issue before warranty expired.
Redwood told me that I should not walk on the roof directly on the edge of the roof, that could push the plywood down, and loosen the staples. So, I will walk the center of the roof when doing cleaning, or maintenance.
I am sure this is not the last I will see of this
Here is what mine look like -
My roof also has the staples lifting along the edge. Redwood techs looked at it at the rally last year and documented. They will fix it at this years Rally if we make it. They had no time to fit me in at the factory. Said it will be fine for another year. As mentioned above they did say to try to stay away from the edge when up on the roof.
Greg,
Your roof looks identical to ours. Ours went from bad to worse. I cannot even tell you the headache that RW gave us. Our pictures were not enough, they needed us to go to a dealer or service place to have them take pictures. However, their pictures were not as good as ours... so the service tech sent our pictures.
RW told us how to do a temporary fix until we could give it to a dealer to repair/replace. They also said we should do the fix right away because if there was water damage and we didn't fix it they would not be responsible, because they told us to fix it.
They looked at the pictures and said they had more questions and requested more pics. We had "repaired" the roof, so couldn't go backwards.
After MULTIPLE conversations... we were told it was OUR fault for not seeing the issue. (Rally 2 years ago service had fix what they could find) And we were told that is normal for the roof.
BIG fail for RW on this one.
Our end decision... We are going to put an RV-Armor roof on. It will be a far superior roof and has a lifetime warranty.
Thought I'd attach a few pictures...
I didn't attach pictures of the staples, because ours looked so similar to yours--although not as many.
They also told us to keep anyone about a foot from the edge.
OH MY GOSH!!!!
HOW OBVIOUS CAN YOU GET WITH SUCH A DEFECTIVE PRODUCT AND/OR INSTALLATION!
I guess this is what we can expect for paying $100,000 for "quality"?
There's more to come on this subject....See PERSPECTIVE NEW OWNERS...
We also contacted our extended warranty (that is another mistake). They said no warranty will cover a roof.
I also reminded a couple of people at RW about the promises that were made at the 2015 rally... "We'll take care of anything for 5 years. The 5 year was going to be phased out--but current owners had NO worries."
I feel very hopeful that the new management will stand behind their promises. I hear really good things about the RW changes. That should benefit all of us.
We win because we will end up with a better roof. We loose because we have to take care of it.
We'll have our new roof by the Rally.
