Has anyone tried to change out their own skylight over the shower area? Ours is beginning to yellow. It's not detrimental yet. We're just planning ahead.

Are there any brands better than any other (ones that would turn yellow)?

Is this a complicated issue or a pretty easy DYI project?

Your suggestions would be appreciated.

Have not changed this one, but have on a previous SOB. The biggest part of the job is removing the 3-4 tubes of caulking around/under it. In the future I plan to change mine out to a dark tinted one, this one let's in a lot of light/heat.

Agree with you analysis...I also like the idea of the tinted skylights. I had not thought of that one.

Any recommendations for getting the old caulk off with ease?

We also thought it was to bright for the bathroom area so we installed some fake stained glass and looks and works perfect. Don't see any yellowing this way.

Thanks for the suggestion Steve.

Found a similar material and installed it on our skylight.

Works great, looks great.

That turned out nice Robert!
Is the film mounted to the outside of the window? (on the roof) I couldn't get the film to stick to the bumpy (inside) of the window.

You must feel Regal when you shower!

I unscrewed the inside panel and took it down.
(there are two clear panels, the one you see from the inside and the one you see on the roof)

I cut the material to fit and placed it on the topside of the inside panel, (it is smooth on the top side of the clear portion of the panel.
