Looking to replace the original suspension shackle system on my 38GK. Have any of you on the forum done a DIY to upgrade and do you have a recommendation on what systems to move to? Thank you.
I had the suspension totally rebuilt on my 2015 39MB. Replaced both spring packs, upgraded with all 4 new 6 leaf springs, shackle links and installed aqua flex equalizers with greasable pins and H.D. sidebars. Had them weld up gussets on spring hangers for extra strength. Night and day difference in tow from the what came stock from the lightweight design from Redwood. Professionally installed for under $2000 including all parts and labour.
The hitch on my 2015 39MB was also fixed at that time by welding solid the sliding mechanism on the Trailair hitch as recommended by Moryde. If you have this hitch I would replace it for safety as well.

I still have the original suspension and have pulled about 85,000 miles. I've replaced the springs after one broke, and I've broken 4 or 5 wet bolts. Since I replaced those with solid bolts I've had no problems.
I also put the MorRyde X-Factor bracing on the rear shackles and I believe that has helped prevent broken shackle welds.
Our 2015 38GK has the Lippert Center Point Air Ride Suspension on it. Original owner had installed in 2016. We had one air bag develop a tear in 2022 and it had to be replaced but other than that it works great. Significantly less cost than IS. It's not an equal to IS but a huge improvement over std.
At the same time the original owner switched out the 7K axles for 8K, installed disc brakes and upgraded to 17.5" wheels/tires. He had new wet bolts installed prior to us taking ownership. I don't think the springs were replaced with heavier duty when he had all the other work done, but not positive.
