Hello fellow Redwooders.  Last September  we were lucky enough to attend the first Northeast region ROG gathering, organized and hosted so successfully by Pat and Rolf Brown.  The members who participated talked about having a second gathering, this time in Ontario in September 2020.

As a follow up, we are writing to get an estimate of interest in such a gathering to be held in Kingston, Ontario Canada this autumn.  Following are some preliminary ideas but nothing is in stone yet--we really want to see how many would be seriously interested in attending and what kind of event you would like to have.

Suggested dates and location:  Sept 9-13, 2020 after the Labour Day Weekend in Kingston Ontario.  We are located about 2.5 hours east of Toronto, or just across the New York/Ontario border at the top of Interstate 81.

This would be primarily a social event, not a rival to the National Rally!  Kingston was Canada's first capital city (we can talk once you get here about the reason for changing the capital's location!) and boasts a rich cultural heritage mixed with a modern small city vibe.  There are lots of options to keep busy.  We could:

  • tour Kingston Penitentiary (Canada's oldest and most famous penitentiary, originally opened in 1847),
  • take an after dark Ghost Walk around Kingston's scariest sites
  • visit the Fort Henry World Heritage Site (including dinner in the officers mess of the early 1800s),
  • have a quilt shop hop,
  • take a trolley tour introducing Kingston,
  • shop in Kingston's pedestrian friendly downtown,
  • organize a wine tour in nearby Prince Edward County,
  • attend an opening night at the Thousand Islands Playhouse in nearby Gananoque ON, or
  • visit some of the numerous museums in the area

or just spend some quality kick-back time with your Redwood family.  Oh, and did we mention these dates coincide with the Kingston Ribfest and Craft Beer Show?  You might want to explore https://www.visitkingston.ca/

There are lots of possibilities but there is more to do than we have time!  Let us know what interests you, from the list above or any other suggestions you might wish to make.  We are in touch with a local campground (check out https://www.rideauacres.com ) and will have information soon about pricing, but don't forget that US dollars are worth about $1.30 CAD.  Talk about an affordable trip!

You wouldn't be making a commitment, but we are hoping for a realistic show of interest so we can see whether this is feasible and start with some planning.  We would be happy to have a conversation with you and plan to use the Forum to do that because it is so much easier to organize and find information as compared to Facebook.

We hope you will join us for a beautiful Canadian late summer week.

Nancy and Dave

Dave, we would love to join you. We have committed to positions in Bar Harbor, Maine this summer and it's a little unclear at this point how much time we might be able to get off. I see it's about a 10 hour drive to Kingston but if we can arrange a way to do it, we will be there. So I suppose mark us down as "tentative."

We absolutely loved the NE Gathering last year in the Thousand Island region.

@iceman1777 we will make that tentative in caps so as to provide encouragement!  Really hope you can make it.

In the meantime, can I get a quick tutorial please?  I want to use the Forum for communications since Facebook is so funky, but realize that a lot of people go first to FB.  How can I make a link on FB to this Forum thread?

It works perfect with our plans to be in Nashville the following week.

@redwood5er We're glad you can join, I thought maybe those dates were not good for you.

I'd be happy for the FB assist when the time comes.  So far we have 4 coaches firm and 1 tentative but I'll wait a little longer to "declare"

Sounds like you guys are having a great time.  I hope Rideau Acres and Fort Henry won't be too boring! 😊
