Has anyone figured out a good way, or the best way, to keep the flap from banging in the wind when the vent is open?
Paul, someone once told me that they use earth magnets... They were supposed to get me some pics, and part numbers but nothing.... He said they are strong enough to keep the door closed while driving down the road, but will release as soon as the vent goes on,???
Thanks Joe. I’m not sure there is any metal up there for a magnet to adhere. Flap and cover is plastic and the side of the RW is fiberglass. Probably something as simple as a piece of electrical tape or maybe a picture frame stick-on pad would work, but the tape wouldn’t stick very long and the pad could be too thick to close the vent for traveling. But I thought surely I’m not the only one that has just gotten use to that flapping in the breeze.

Yes Paul, I am intrigued also.....?????? Right now, I use an old manual awning rod..and it works... I just keep forgetting to either lock,or unlock... I liked the magnet idea for the fact that I don’t have to worry about, but can not figure out how it works
Right guys, it’s a no brainer when traveling. I lock it closed with the plastic tabs with an awning rod. I’m talking about when you are parked for any length of time and the vent is “unlocked”. We use the microwave nearly every day and leave the flap open, but any breeze over 5kts and that thing just flaps away in the wind.

I have not had the problem of the vent flapping in a breeze unless it is a serious storm. For what its worth, maybe you could devise an extension to the hood to provide more protection from the wind.
We also have the problem with the microwave vent flapping in the wind. It's also easy to forget to latch it when you have been parked for a long time
Paul, probably not what you want to do, but I posted a mod here on the site. That cheap flapper broke when the winds broke the pins off. I could have bought a replacement flapper but I installed a vent clousure that has slots that you pull open and close, no flapping.
It's not quite "plug and play" but it solves the flapping and breaking problem.
A couple of the magnets that have adhesive on the back, attach one to the flap, and the other to the inside of the cover? The only problem is the magnet may make the flap to heavy to open under normal use. you would have to manually open it until it contacted the magnet.

I did this. Works well!

I'll take a look in the mods and see what kind of project that might be.
See above link. Good pics.
Paul, the toughest part was to get the vent hood off because of that tough caulking!
