Quieting Fresh Water Pump

Our fresh water pump has always produced quite a bit of noise when operating. This is due to it being directly attached with screws to the floor in the basement.

To reduce the noise level I came up with a plan to isolate the pump from the floor using rubber corks and an intervening layer of plywood. Holes were drilled through the plywood near its corners through which scews attaching it to the follor would pass. Four rubber corks were first drilled through the center to make it easier to thread wood screws through them. The corks were then cut into three cross sections. One of these layers was placed between the mounts on the pump and the plywood with the screw through the cork. A seconed was placed on top of the plywood at each corner hole and the third directly below the hole and a screw was driven through these rubber pieces and into the basement floor.

We have not camped since this project was completed, but a test in the driveway seemed to show a large reduction in pump noise.

My apologies for these pictures as they do not show the new installation well. I forgot to take photos until after the basement wall had been reinstalled and I was too lazy to take it back out.

I found that the noise was coming from the pump discharge hose which was leaning against the inside of the basement wall and transmitting the vibration into the wall. I isolated the hose with a piece of foam swimming pool doodle which I sliced open to insert around the hose. This eliminated a lot of the noise. I also loosened the pump hold down screws which were too tight and compressing the rubber foot pads. B)

Both idea's sound efective,
looks like it's time to take down the wall and get busy.
