Steve,
It is a shame we made this contact because of our issues, but I think everyone benefits. Funny, several have told us to put them on our list. 🙂

We have had the RV Roof Armor since 2014. Great product, Ours was installed by RV Roof Armor.com, located in Green Cove Springs, FL. Highly Recommend them, great service, outstanding technicians and even more professional and outstanding owners. If anyone uses them, tell them that we recommended them to you. The roof is so easy to maintain, I use the same wash that I use on the coach, no need for caulking, etc, just wash as needed.

Brenda and I are also thinking of attending the RV Armor technicians seminar in October. Do you think a 5 day apprenticeship program would be comprehensive enough to adequately prepare me for an installation? Seeking your input since you are now living it. I understand the classroom training, hands on, and instructional guides are top notch. Any input would be helpful. I hope to interview this week. Thanks, Kenny

The week is very thorough. There is no way for them to cover every issue you're going to come up with. We've had a different issue with every roof we've done. They're very available for help while you're working. We have found them to be an excellent company to be involved with. And we love the product. It is much harder work than we had anticipated! But if you're up to the challenge it's a great opportunity. I really can't speak highly enough about the company. Feel free to PM us, we could even visit on phone if that would be helpful.

I'm a new owner of a 2018 Redwood. Is there something wrong with the factory roof?

While a number of owners have experienced issues with the factory roof, a significant majority have had no issues.

Our coach was manufactured in Oct/Nov 2012, spends most of the time in the Pacific NW and we have had Zero issues.

We are in the unfortunate owners group that had significant roof issues. We also have installed RV-Armor roofs. So I am coming at my answer from both the owner and also with the information we have from installing roofs with RV-Armor.

There are several things that contribute to a roof failure. I do not believe the season a rig is manufactured is the cause of the problem; if that were the case, all RV manufacturers would close down for the winter or make them in only warm weather climates. If a roof is installed inside, the temperature is warmer. Also, the glue takes limited time to cure.

We have a 2014 38RL. After 2014 Redwood added a support block to the roof structure that helps to reduce the flex. Redwood has made several changes in their end roof product.

There are multiple materials used for RV roofs. Our RW roof was not TPO, it was vinyl. (In fact, we rarely saw a TPO roof.) Either way, if the roof material pulls and stretches and if it doesn’t snap back, it will cause a wrinkle or bubble. Wrinkles and bubbles are not normal; they can be a sign of a potential problem.

We had to remove about 5 feet of the vinyl on our roof. There was plenty of glue still present. When the roof material pulls, it needs to have proper screws to attach it so it doesn’t come out. The issue that some RW have is that there is not enough roofing material under the front and end cap. Also, on ours they used very short screws and our screws had rusted in half. We also had short staples holding down the roof on the sides.

GipCTraveler is correct is saying that roof problems often are the installation. Anything that is made by a person opens it up for potential problems. There are thousands of Redwood 5th wheels that have no roof issues. Redwood doesn’t corner the market on any RV issues.

If you ever have to replace your roof, I definitely recommend one of the Armor products. I do not think it matters if a roof is done in the factory or on the road. If you get a Lifetime warranty… do what is the easiest and most convenient for you.

It would be nice if an Armor roof was an option with the initial purchase. But, I’m wondering how many potential owners are willing to pay an additional $5K to $10K to the original cost?

Do the regular maintenance, regularly check your roof for staples or screws that are coming up, also watch for wrinkles/bubbles and watch to make sure you do not see any place that you are seeing the edge of roof material pulling from under the caps.

Don’t go in expecting a problem where you don’t have one yet. There isn’t a perfect RV out there. Some of us have had more issues than others—that doesn’t make it a bad 5th wheel.

Enjoy your life with your new Redwood. I would hate to see you spend any time worrying about the negative “might happen”. Enjoy your today. Congratulations!

I agree with all the comments above, there is not a issue with Redwoods roof structure, material or installation procedure.
It is pretty much the same process all RV manufacturers use (the structure will vary from manufacturer).
Our roof got air under the membrane and "Bellowed Up"
We had RV Armor repair / replace our Roof in Texas and have had no issues since.
We are very happy with the RV Armor installation and product.
Since that happened to us, I now watch other RVs on the road looking for the same "Roof Bellow" condition we had.
I see them quite often and by every RV manufacturer and brand out there.
