If you read some of my comments earlier about my Tri Glide , you will know that I am not comfortable with it. It has been making a lot of NOISE while stopping and starting , and it keeps spitting grease back at me in little streams . . I grease all 9 zerks , and still have a ton of movement with my fingers...

Everything is tight , and no visible cracks or issues so far.

I have been thinking about dumping the Tri-Glide and replacing it with the Flex Air . .

What say you ???

PROS -

CONS -

I'm thinking of welding the lower articulating plate to the lower hinged jaw which would turn the Trail Air Tri Glide into a Trail Air Air Glide. I think Rob did this when he had broken rollers. Rob - how did it ride when welded up?

The emergency repair of welding the "Glide Plate" worked and held up well but the ride was horrible, a lot of chucking !!!

The welding of the "Glide Plate" was a good temporary fix but if the "Glide Plate" is working, I would not weld it.

I was glad to get the replacement Tri Glide Hitch from Redwood / Lippert 🙂

I talked with Zack from LCI specifically on the Flex Air vs the Tri Glide. He informed me that the base is larger, you don't get the noise no maintenance requirements, except the bladder air based on your desire and ride. He stated that comments from customers were positive on the flex air. He'll be at the rally and answer any questions/concerns. I'll be replacing the Tri glide in the next week.

Joe,

After 3+ years I have finally managed to get a comfortable ride with the tri-glide. Previously, I had tried adding a couple shots of grease every 1500 to 3000 miles and got reduced slamming and shuddering while starting and stopping. Yes, I also get it returning the grease back out the grease nipples.

For this year, I added grease before departing the storage yard and after about 40 miles added a 2nd application to all 9 grease nipples. I've now completed about 1,000 miles and when pulling away get a light click. On hard braking I get a little movement, but not the thump and shuddering of before. I also now keep the air bag at slightly lower pressure for a softer ride. Based on Rob's experience I also inspect for cracks, welds, etc.

I had thought of changing it at the rally, but have opted to retain the tri-glide, for now, and focus on the suspension upgrade and stairs.

I've been on the fence for some time in doing this exchange. Checked with Lippert and they won't do a swap at the Rally, but maybe with enough of us interested we could get Lippert to bring them to the campgroud and we could work together changing them out. With enough hands and bodies shouldn't be to bad a job.
What say fellows, sound like a plan??

I only get the slamming/banging on hard starts/stops & have always kept it greased, but only 3-4 times a year. If you have grease squirting back at from the zerks they need replacing, they have a spring loaded ball in them to prevent that from happening & they used the cheapest they could find originally.
I would really like the Flex Air, but can't justify spending $$ on something that ain't broke.

That's is a very valid point Danny... I am just terrified that I will have the same issue as Rob...

When I move that bottom plate with my fingers , and see all the force that is applied to those 6 points, with the weight of the camper it scares me... I like the idea of the Flex Air , it's as close to a Tri-Glide/MORRyde inbred as you can ... That bottom flexing plate sits on a thick rubber pad...

OK, on this subject, has anyone actually determined if the only difference between the Tri-Glide and FlexAir is the lower Jaw?? I know it's been asked of Lippert about just exchanging the Lower Jaw, but if everything else was the same, seems it would be a very simple job to just change it, especially since some are starting to see the bolts on the pivot point starting to come loose.
Thoughts??

Joe what kind of pressure do you keep the airbag at? I know flavours may vary but this is all new to me and just looking for a ballpark to get me going.
Right now I think I am a bit underinflated. its in the middle of the lines when the unit was empty but now closer to the bottom of the shock when she is loaded.
Cheers SteveP

Most are running between 55 and 90
Mine is best at 90 at the tip of the arrow on minebut I am pin heavy. It will depend what your pin weight is. I would start at 60. And work up or down from there

Like Shane noted, it depends on your pin weight. I have found that 70 seems to be my number on the flex air....
