I took advantage of the 71 degrees, and spent the day outside tinkering..

Jacked up the RW, removed curb side rear wheel to check for oil leak,,, found the plastic screw on cap with o-ring was very loose, o-ring was not touching... replaced , all is good

Excersized the Onan for 45 minutes

Installed the Onan hot air duct underneath

Made custom flag pole holder.

I also open all the slides and let it air out for the day.... MAN I HAVE THE ITCH !!!!!

Retwired electric brakes with 10 gauge wires. Found the factory used a single 16 gauge blue insulated wire to power all four brake sets. Duh! No wonder the braking is poor.

I was wondering about that. I have my brake controller set to 10 (highest) and still think the braking should be better.

Do you have disk brakes?

Drum brakes set at 7.5. New wires are strung but have yet to cut the old wires and connect the new. Will then test drive and revert with conclusions.

Joe...Love that flag pole holder! Very professional. Do you have the pole in some type of base?

Bob,
I will hopefully in a day or 2.. ran out of time, and now the week is busy for work..
I have a 12" square piece of plate with a 3" OD piece of tube to be welded to the center. I have drilled a hole and tapped a 1/4-20 thread into it, and now have a 1/4- 20 screw with wing nut end to use as a thumb tighter.. Just need to weld it up...
I carry 2@ 5 gallon buckets usually, so i can either fill with sand, or water if i think it needs help staying in place.

Do you have the electric brakes? With those, I had to set at 10 also. But even then, very little braking ability. I had blamed the truck integrated controller for so long...Now I know different.

I can't brag enough on these discs brakes...Now I am set on 4 and if I wanted (or had to) step hard on the brake, there is little doubt that the tires could easily be locked up. I may need to set it back to 3 but need more time to test out. Right now, we're pretty stationary until later this year.

I do have Redwood factory disk brakes which is why I question the wiring. Seems they should work better and I probably shouldn't need my disk brake controller set to max.

Going to talk to the techs at the rally this year and see what's up plus wait to hear from NW to see how much difference his wiring provides.

Wow Ken, that does sound wrong.

On the Electric Brakes, I would think there is more electrical load and a lot more wire length (since the wiring goes to each wheel) to energize all 4 brake magnets than to energize the Disk Brake Pump that is mounted in the front compartment.

I run my Disc Brakes installed at MoRyde (when I got the IS Suspension)at a setting of 5.5 on my GMC Truck. If I set my trucks brake controller at 10, it would put me through the windshield when I stop.

Ken, these are probably obvious checks, but have you checked your fluid levels, disc pads, and for air in the lines? They could all be contributors.

Also, which controller are you using?

Have you check the voltages as the brakes are applied? For integrated proportional controllers, you will need to run a set of wires out the back window and connect them at the jbox. Drive and apply the brakes to see what kind of voltage you are getting. You won't be able to do this test with it sitting still and just applying brakes.

Then do the same AT the controller.

Compare the readings.

You might be getting a voltage drop from the controller to the rig.

Maybe the plug in points are getting dirty or loose.

Other than these items, it could just be the brake controller not working correctly.

Ken - this is a dumb question, but is the truck set to Electric / Hydraulic in the truck app settings ? If not, it would do almost exactly what you describe. The setting is not in the trailer app settings in the Ford info center, you need to get the manual out and track down where it is in the Truck app settings. I do remember it was not intuitive.

With my rig and the Kodiak Disc brakes, I run 6.5 usually and will go to 7.5 in the mountains.
