On-Line SCAMS
I'll post this in this section and the For Sale Section:

Like Danny has suggested, Craigslist has been a hot spot for criminals...
I will suggest though that if we let them win, we will be FORCED to deal only with crooked dealerships instead...There needs to be improvements in these on-line retail resources.
In the Credit Card world, the problem could EASILY be fixed. The Credit Card companies just refuse to move into the 21st Century... One method includes a PIN number be sent to your phone for authentication. Before you jump on THIS idea, remember when we used to write checks? You always had to wait on those who refused to fill out the check ahead of getting the final amount. I would contend that a PIN for a credit card sent to your phone at the time of the transaction is still many time faster than that.
One could also be ISSUED a PIN number ahead of time for transaction authentication but that posses risks as it does change.
The bottom line is that this IS an electronic world we live in. We just have to get those electronic companies on board.
As for on-line sales, I ALWAYS try to meet individuals in a VERY public location such as a Police Department or Fire Department. And I usually bring a second or third party with me.
When it comes to RV's (or cars), I test individuals by asking them to meet at the Police Department to run the VIN first and to meet me at the DMV for the Title Transfer. If they are not willing to do that, move on...
Is it foolproof? Probably not. I'd like to hear other thoughts on this topic.
