Is there a price sheet available here in the forum for new Redwood RVs?

I haven't seen one, or heard any discussion on price sheets, for about 3 years

Most people feel uncomfortable discussing prices paid for their coaches. One reason is, you have to compare "apples to apples" in features and different rigs.

Another touchy point is... you may have paid more for your coach than someone else did - with comparable features; or it could go the other way and you paid less for your coach.. either way, it could lead to a sour taste in someones' mouth when discussing prices.

If you do your due diligence and search the internet for comparisons on the different models nationwide, you will get a good feel for what dealerships are wanting for them, and a good price range for units 'off the lot' pricing. Having it custom built to your specifications will cost more.

Good luck with your search! It is worth it!

A couple of good places to start:

http://www.everything-about-rving.com/negotiation-tips.html

http://changingears.com/rv-art-determining-rv-fmv.shtml

1) It's going to depend on where you are located. Some places are just naturally higher than others. How far are you willing to travel?

2) 35-40% off of MSRP is a great place to start. But, don't forget to negotiate the walk-out price and not the sales price. There is a ENORMOUS difference.

3) Is there a washer and dryer included? There was in ours. Brand new Spledides. About $1800.

4) Is there a satellite system? Another $1800. Included in ours.

5) Do you have a hitch? About $1500. Ours was thrown in.

6) What about the power cord, water hoses, sewer hoses? Yet, another $500. Included.

These are all great negotiating items.

Don't forget...Most states charge a sales tax. That can be another $5000-8000. (Included in the walk-out price) If you're in Canada, there may be an additional premium.

How are your negotiating skills? If you're good, you can do 40% INCLUDING most everything above.

How do I know? Because I negotiate everything. I even surprised myself when we closed on our 3 month old used unit. Don't sign up for the first thing you see. There are an abundance of "dealers" (new and used) out there. Do you know how many RV's are manufactured every year? Do you know how many used units hit the market every year?

Buy your 1st unit the first time. Not the 3rd time. go to RV shows and walk the lots (both new and used). Look at older units to see how well they are going to hold up. That will tell you a LOT!

RV Basics....You'll get 85% of what you want in a unit. No more. There is no such thing as a "perfect" unit. If you find that one, let's talk again after 3-4 months. That does not mean "settle". That just means that you need to be informed and ready to walk away from a bad deal or from units that don't have most everything you want. BE SURE to look at the list. If you don't know the difference between disc and electric brakes, find out. If you don't understand weight loads, 7000# vs 8000# axles, find out. If you want tires that last, get H-rated tires. The list goes on.

If you are buying from a dealer, will it be local? Local dealers will "try" to give you better "service" treatment after the sale. But don't count on it. Check the dealer out carefully. Call the BBB. Check with RV friends. Ask here on this site what others think. You'll be surprised at what you will learn. Be ready to do some things yourself.

If you're buying new, you will not be done "buying" anything. You'll find that you still need a lot of "goodies". Try to negotiate them in. How about that generator? An ONAN 5500 or 6500? You better get a 6500 at least!

Remember used?..You can save a ton of money. I won't tell you what we paid, but I will tell you (and I can back it up), 60% off MSRP for a 3 month old unit is a lot better that 40% off for a new unit.

The one thing that is NOT on your side right now...SALES are HOT! I read a report every weekend about what is going on: http://rvtravel.com/?q=node/2296

You may want to wait for things to cool down or wait until winter, while it's raining and negotiate at the eleventh hour for a good price.

Good luck on whatever you decide. You won't be disappointed if you go in ready for the fight. We spent 9 hours there. The salesman could not make a sale to anyone else. We just kept him tied up all day. We also used the kids...It's amazing how they can get on the salesman's nerves if you keep them hungry... 🙂

Happy Trails!

Also keep in mind any extra fees like delivery, financing origination fees , etc etc

Dealers can pile those on at the last minute so review the docs as far in advance as possible.

Another buying tool is we bought new off the lot but we bought during model year change over.
The dealer already had the new model year units on the lot and ours was the only previous year model left so they were motivated to move it.
The other thing when buying like I did with a previous year model is make sure it does not have lot rot from sitting on the lot for a very long time, our unit was only on the lot about 3 to 4 months, it was manufactured near the end of the model year run.

And whether you buy new or used (from a dealership), perform a THOROUGH PDI (Pre-Delivery Inspection). If you don't know a lot about RV's hire an inspector (just like for homes). Once you drive it off of a lot, it's your baby! Negotiate the inspector. If it passes your mustard, you pay. If not, they pay!

I did my deal at the end of the month , they were aggressive to sell... I also was lucky to get a manufacturer push/pull discount... They dont happen a lot , but if they have accentives left for the quarter you can benefit . It was well worth the wait...
Call Crossroads/Redwood and ask for your area's factory rep.. Give them a call and tell them you need help getting into a Redwood,,,

Joe - thanks for asking.

Affirmative, posting RW base floorplan and options MSRP's is acceptable. It is discussions on final dealer prices that we want to avoid.

In addition to the extras that Ken mentioned, on our side of the border we also have exchange rates. Lately this has resulted in a huge increase in our dealer's MSRP.

Thank you for all the comments. I should have specified MSRP price sheet more clearly. I've also learned it is important to get it straight from the manufacturer as some dealers will make up their own, which I personally find unethical.

Our requirements are kind of specific, and it is unlikely we'll find one off the lot. However, my research leads me to believe that most dealers are marking up units 50% or more. (Some indicators show 55% for Redwood products.) If they weren't, they would not be frequently offering discounts of 30% or more.

We have a couple of things working in our favor too, including the fact that we already are in an RV with a floor plan we like. And I've fixed most of the issues. But, it is a 2008, and some of the safety features I'd like to see with it would not have a good ROI. When it comes time to pull the trigger, I'll send out requests for bid to a handful of dealers. If someone is serious about making a sale, they will get serious with me. If not, we'll wait.

If you've been following my other thread, you'll have picked up that I have a short list right now that I'm researching, and RW36RL is one of them. But, I need better MSRP information to know if I'm comparing apples-to-apples.

Again, I'm grateful for the number of replies. Having a vocal and strong owner's group is on our list of criteria. And I look forward to seeing the list from ford truck guy (hoping it is generated by the manufacturer).

MSRP is no secret. Here is the lastest I have. Add it up, take the expected or negotiated discount, and there you go!

Excellent. That is what I was looking for. Unless someone already has one, I may turn this into a spreadsheet.
