Looking forward to the National Rally in July 2017, and have an open question: Is anyone interested in caravaning to the rally from Texas? Absolutely no plans made at this point; just gathering information. We are in the north Dallas area.

Thoughts?

We're in North Fort Worth. We would be heading up I-35W to I-35.

It's really going to depend on when we all depart. Our plans are to leave on Saturday or Sunday morning. we have not firmed anything up just yet.

We did not attend the rally last year but the year before was a lot of fun. We left here and did not see any Redwoods until we got to St. Louis. There, we pulled up behind another Redwood who was also attending the rally. We passed each other several times until we started using paper and passing notes back and forth. We finally got their cell number and pulled off at an intersection for introductions. What a hoot...

The great thing about caravans is that if one of you break down, you have someone else with you to help out. It's also a great way to meet new folks! I guess the wild west would have been a lot like that.

That sounds great. We are from Wimberley, outside of Austin. This would be our first rally.

As we begin to plan and investigate overnight stops along the way, we are looking for advice/information from prior experiences..... Has anyone made this trip before, where did you stay along the way, and ultimately, would you stay there again? 🙂 We are coming from Plano -- north of Dallas

Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks.

2015 Route Map:

Here is the list of known campgrounds on this route. In our travels, in 2015, we only stopped at the Route 66 Campground. We left in the afternoon and although this was not half way, it was convenient and clean. It is a bit noisy since it is by the freeway, but for an inexpensive overnighter, it was suitable. For the 2017 rally, we may stop at the Casino at the Oklahoma/Missouri border and then pick another campground another 1/3rd of the route to kind of break up the trip. If we have enough who want to caravan together, of course we are up for options. From Fort Worth, that is about an 18-19 drive depending on stops.

That sounds good! We were thinking two stops would work best for us also. Thank you again for the information.

We are all set on our reservations for the rally, July 15th through the 23rd.( we can change as needed) so, for us coming from San Angelo to meet with everyone North of Dallas we would come in the night before. Keep us posted on schedule that you think we need and we can adapt to what ever works for everyone else.

So far, 4 of us coming out of Texas;

FLP757
GipCTravelers
Carl and Patti
Calribels

I hope we can all work out a plan. It's fun to travel as a caravan and if we don't rush, that will make it even better. It can be done in 2 days, but its rough.

Anybody in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri or Illinois coming this way for the Rally?

Hey GipCTravelers,
As we get closer to the Rally date, any suggestions on a meeting place and and departure date? We will be coming from San Angelo and will come up the day before, so any overnight spots close would be great.

Thanks
Fred/Sandy

Oh...You are ahead of me there...

Are you planning to come up I-35 W?

I think San Angelo is about 2 hours from Ft Worth?

I'm just taking a quick first stab at this but the Windstar Casino is about an hour and a half North of here. A good place for a first night. If you want to go farther, there is the Turner Falls, Ok area. There is a park right by the freeway that's clean and free of tree branch's (at least he last time we passed through there).

Just North of Ardmore, Ok, there is a State Park at Lake Murray. We would have to plan ahead as this is a favorite for a lot of folks.

Between there and Tulsa, it gets thin. The next place is just across the OK / MO line. There is another Casino there with very clean RV camping. There is one more campground location beyond that. But from San Angelo, that would be getting to be about 8 hours.

I'll start looking closer and pull together some recommendations. I'm open to anything.

Windstar is about 5 hr drive for us.. that would be good for our first stop.
We can meet up with everyone there to caravan up to the Rally. Looking forward to meeting everyone and learning more about our Redwood.

Winstar rv park is a very nice, clean, plenty of space, would make a great rendezvous spot, we've stayed nunerous times when in the area. BTW, haven't one too bad inside either. Go inside & get the players card (it's free) & save probably 1/2 of the rv rate plus whatever freebe they are now offering.
