I have always had problems with black marks on the sides of my slides from the slide seals.
Over the years I have tried a number of different products to prevent the black marks without much success.

Anyone have any suggestions to prevent the black marks caused by the seals on the sides of my slides?

Rob,

I found that when I wax the sides of the slide then add pledge to both sides of the wiper seal that I have almost ZERO marking ..

Rob,

I've done the same thing as Joe with the same results. You do need to keep up with it though.

I had the black marks on the slides as well, I cleaned up the marks and no more appeared until I sprayed some seal conditioner on the seals, the marks came back big time. I won't put anything on them again, as I feel they weren't properly manufactured, best to keep anything from "melting" them.

The Redwood repair shop recommended Pledge to me for use as a lubricant on the slide seals.

Same here! Use it on all the rubber seals throughout the RW. I buy the imitation Pledge at the dollar store & it works just as well. It also works to remove the black marks.
