Spent the weekend at Texas Copper Breaks State Park...

1,000,000 stars and 1 Milkyway...

Severe thunderstorms 3 nights. Took on 60 mph winds broadside with no wind protection. Tree branches down but no RV damage to anyone.

Campground 85% full over weekend. Watched some poor tent folks take a beating on their first night. They packed and left along with a few others.

It's been hot at 100 to 105. The winds have helped at 20 to 35 mph.

Both A/C units run full time. At night, able to get to 69. Daytime = 84-85 at best. I just want to strangle the Redwood personnel responsible for foaming in the cross ducts. As a result of this trip, I'll likely be cutting in some additional return grills to get some additional air flow....

We haven't had much luck with the weather when we have taken our RW out this year; nothing like you had... but still - weather. Rain, rain and more rain. I won't complain about that - it's still better to be camping in a RW in rain than in a tent!

Our a/c unit struggles to cope with the TX heat and at best - will shut off after the sun goes down, at least one of them does.

I hope you post pics of your a/c mods; sounds like it may help.

... and, I know what you mean about the the star show. "The stars at night are big and bright, deep in the heart of Texas.."

Not this year but memories come back from 3 years ago. We headed out to Myrtle Beach. 850 miles in rain, rain and did I say rain! Arrived and just would not stop so after a few days we made a dash to Jekyll Island. Absolutely a beautiful place for a few hours and the rain caught up. Campground not very nice but only one out there so OK now what to do? We still have about 16 days before we need to get home. Off to Disney to Fort Wilderness and FINALLY out ran the rain.
The rest of the trip was great. You just never know.

We don't have the same heat, but over the past few days we have experienced thunder storms, wind and heavy rain in both Prince George (BC) and Hinton/Jasper (Alberta).

Hoping the weather doesn't follow us to Shipshewana.

Sorry to say that we'll miss this year's Shipshewana event. Maybe next year.

Last year, the weather was just great. If not mistaken, high's in the low 80's and the night's were in the 50's and 60's.

You will all have a great time. Be sure to post pics!

Still curious how much wind it takes to turn one of these over....Maybe one of you could ask at the rally if they have ever done any tests or have data like that. In Texas, a thunderstorm can always produce high winds. It's not out of the question that there can be squall lines of 80-90 mph winds. And tornadoes are always a possibility. Not much you could do about that...

We were in Bushland Tx (12 miles west of Amarillo) parked at our sons 2 years ago May & had sustained winds of 40+ day & night, gusts 70+, dust storms so thick you couldn't see across the street about 6-8 days, lasting the entire month. We spent several days either in the bedroom watching tv with all the slides in or went to the movies, longest 30 days ever. So I can honestly say they will survive 70+, the awning toppers have suffered from that experience ever since though.
