Well ....... looks like our winter plans may be changing. After the Tampa RV Show in January , friends in Tucson have asked us if there is any way to come visit. We're thinking a leisurely swing out along the southern coast and then maybe 10 days or so in Tucson.

Any advice if this is doable towards the end of February and also suggestions that we might try for a week or 10 days stay. As always, thanks in advance and all polite suggestions are appreciated !!

Once you decide when/where/how long you'll need to get your reservstion this area fills up with us snowbirds.
We're in a smaller park about 45 minutes west of Tucson & the manager said today they are filling up after the 1st of November.

We've stayed a couple of times at the Catalina State Park. If you book early enough you can get water+power. It fills up pretty quickly since it's a nice location and great park.

I did a quick look @ the reservations now for Feb-1 and looked to be full with water+power hookups but a few spots are still available if you are ok with some dry camping nights.

Other places in the area on your way in/out I'd recommend:

- Scottsdale/Phoenix area: Cave Creek Regional Park/Lake Pleasant Regional Park
- Mesa Area; Usery Mountain Regional Park, Lost Dutchman State Park

We've stayed at all these in our 38FL and had no problems fitting. All offer Water+Power if you book enough in advance. Select your spot carefully at Lake Pleasant though, some are tight but the spot we got had an amazing view of the lake, shade awning and our very own Saguaro.

If you are planning a quick overnight off the I-10 I'd recommend Cattleman's Steakhouse in Faben's TX on your way to/from Tucson. About 5 miles off the I-10, easy on/off and a great steak restaurant to boot for an easy dinner. When you drive in don't go up the hill stay at the bottom by the lake. There will be NO PARKING signs, but they are easily moved and security didn't have an issue with that the 4 or 5 times we've past through, just let them know you are coming ahead of time with a call 20 minutes out or when you arrive.

Hope this helps.

On the transit through Tucson on our way to and from California we stay at the Lazy Days KOA for a few days, not a scenic place but full service place, good sites and with easy access to the interstate and Tucson shopping etc. It does get busy but we've always got a site there. It was formerly beaudry.

We've stayed at the KOA also when we've had a service appointment at Lazydays.

Always like to stock up on oranges and lemons as they have plenty of citrus trees in the park. You can get a fruit picker at the front desk.

Only downside for us is the train close by. It runs all night and is pretty loud.

If you or your friend are retired military, DM AFB is in Tucson and has a nice RV park on base.
As an added bonus, they train A-10 and C-130 pilots there and put on daily shows (practice).

Try to avoid the beginning on February as they have a gem show and it gets quite crowded (and expensive!)
