Anyone carrying bicycles on the back of your Redwood?

Any do's or dont's?

Any particular favorite carry racks?

If we do this, we would just carry 2.

I gotta feeling many of you would say you wouldn't ride a bike unless it has a motor.... :S

Make sure you get a rack with a 2" shaft, and you will need an extension on the RW OEM hitch to move the rack back so handle bars aren't hitting the back cap.
We have the Swagman two bike rack. Like the idea that the main weight of the bikes is on their tires. We've travel back and forth from Western New York to Florida a few times with no problems.

Something similar to this?? After looking at this, I like the idea of the wheels having support as well. What did you use for an extension?

Go to Harbor Freight & get the raised extension so the rack/tires don't drag in driveways.

Also if you use large bolts/nuts instead of the hitch pins you'll be able to tighten most all of the slop out of the rack & extension.

We just purchased a SARIS bike rack for 2 bikes, (made in USA) there were two different models one with no straps that camp on and one with straps a lot less expensive (less than $300)we picked the less than $300. We did not get the extension on the receiver and the pedal on the inside bike is touching the back of rig, I need too look for an extension or come up with a modification.

We also have a Saris, also a The Deluxe Bike cove from camping World, both work great, the cover keeps the clean and dry even in the worst conditions.

Don't leave them home on your Alaska trip, some one told us you will never find a place to use them,
I spent $600 in Anchorage to get a bike. and it was a good deal, got a nice mountain bike.

This is the exact rack we have and has worked great since 2008. I always put a small ratchet strap on the bikes just for piece of mind.

I use the swagman 4 bike rack... And it gets the job done.... I also use a ratchet strap to tighten up the entire rack, and take most of the bounce out. . .

Another one with the Swagman. What I really like about it is how easy it comes off the RW and we can put it on the truck for the day.
When I set the Mini up to tow it will have a 1 1/4 hitch so we can put the rack on it.

Ours is a 2 bike like the picture and has been on the back for over 3 years and 15-17k miles.

Oh, and it has a lock bolt and nut that comes with it to tighten the hitch mount.

We have a "no name" rack which I modified by having an extension welded on to get the rack past the rear cap.

I had some slack that caused the rack to move left to right a bit, a combination of starter shims bought at the auto parts store plus a strap to hold the rack to the RW ladder stopped the movement.

Not to highjack the thread but I would be interested in comments about a good electric bike to get. I've seen a couple but first hand experience would be great!

We have a Swagman two bike rack. Three years of full-timing use with thousands of miles traveled and no issues. We too like the easy on and off design, allowing us the option of putting on our TV when needed.
