Good Sams - TravelAssist Plan - Have You Read the Fine Print?

Here is a reason to scrutinize the Good Sam's Insurance (not so Insurance) plan...

You'll just need to decide for yourself whether it is worth it. I'm sure reading a lot of horror stories with the Good Sam's Road Side/TravelAssist plan. How many of you have had this plan and made a claim? Did you have issues? I don't have it...

While we don't have this specific plan, in our experience with medical insurance, trip cancellation insurance, etc it is consistent with most of them.

Might not have to read all 5,000 words of the terms and conditions, but you should at least read and understand the sections on how to claim and the exclusions/pre-existing conditions. Most of the ones we have purchased, unless in an accident you must initiate a claim before going to the hospital or doctor. If in an accident, they normally require a call from somebody (even the hospital) as soon as possible.

From reading the article, sounds like they purchased a plan, but had no idea what it entailed and didn't even know the process to initiate a claim. The FAQ on the website actually gives a reasonable description of the services they provide - 2 key points they advise calling 911 and then Travelassist. In the FAQ, they also clearly state they will determine when medical evacuation is required and make the necessary arrangements.

You have to feel for these people, but in reality, it appears they purchased a service without knowing the scope of services provided, not the process to initiate a claim. They didn't even have to read the small print, as the FAQ on the website gives a reasonable description.
