Anyone else look at the new 2017 Redwoods? I was thinking of going from a 2015 to a 2017 but think I will hang onto this one. I went in all 4 models they have at my local dealer and boy does the quality seemed to have dropped. There was give in the floor in the RL models between the island and the couch. The wood in all of them seemed cheap looking along with the flooring used (lesser quality). I think the lighter wall covering material has weakened the quality feel also. the hard top surfaces even looked cheaper quality. The only thing I liked better was the new steps that fold into the doorway. Anyone else observe this besides me? I also put Moryde disc brakes and suspension on mine so I will just keep the 38RL.........
We have not been in one, but the regional manager at our dealership had said that they changed from regular plywood to chipboard in the flooring .... that our 2016 was the last year for it. So that may be the issue. We have had so many problems with our RV, we have not been able to travel and now the need for a deck and step system after surgeries just adds another reason. But hopefully when we get the RV back this week it will be completely fixed and ready to travel.
Funny you mention This. We were thinking the exact same thing and went to a dealer yesterday. We checked out the 2017 38RL and immediately noticed a big difference in quality to our 2015 (built in 14') 38 RL! The quality of the exterior paint, no rear storage, no exterior TV, woodwork, were all inferior. We did like the removal of carpet in the living room and the new cooktop/oven, but we can do this to my current rig. We would diffinately not trade ours for the new model at this time.
Sounds like once again the corporate bean counters have taken over another department, RV design...... :silly:
Once we are done with this one (which may not be too much longer), we're moving to Mobile Suites.
The interiors on the Redwood have just gone down hill (I'm sorry if that offends anyone who has purchased a recent model). I still like the paint schemes on the outside though.
With ALL of the problems we've had to date, I would not consider another Redwood unless things dramatically changed. And it would have to be soon.

Where will go from the Mobile Suites? Maybe New Horizons or Continental Coach & a HDT to move them. From what I've read on other forums you'll just be swapping to a different batch of issues that cost a lot more.

Did anyone check out the length? When we looked they are now 38 feet not 41'5", and cost more.

Danny,
Since the industry as a whole is unregulated, I understand your point. But this was about how cheap Redwood is moving aesthetically.
It's a personal opinion and everyone will have one, but the newer models just don't have that upgrade "feel" any more as they did in earlier models. To get that "feel" back, we'll leave Redwood when the time comes.
If I make a move from my RL, and I have to say I don't see myself doing that as I have it the way I want it, we will go to a Newmar fifth wheel from the early 2000's with the tandem dually. They were built like tanks and still look good. One of them can be purchased right, take it to MorRyde for IS and disc brakes if it doesn't already have. Only drawback is they are heavy, but if going o that I'll also. Go to a Volvo and a Mini on the truck bed.
