Anyone know what would be involved in purchasing a new RV in Canada and transferring it back to the States? Import fees? Taxes? Paperwork involved?

Do you think this would be worth exploring?

Canadian $ vs. US $ exchange?

Unless you can find one that has been sitting on a dealer lot since before our dollar crashed, the prices up here reflect the adverse exchange rate.

Our dealer in Abbotsford currently has 3 Redwoods (early 2016's) on the lot, which they received when the exchange rate was about 30%. Although the prices are readily available, I still prefer not to post them, so here is the link, should you wish to compare.

You will also have to pay sales taxes, which vary by Province - Alberta is cheapest at only 5% (GST), while BC is 12% (GST & PST). Some others are even higher.

When we considered purchasing in Oregon, which has no sales tax, we would have required a Canadian Standards sticker/decal. You would therefore require a similar decal for the U.S. Coming into Canada, we would have paid Federal Tax (5%) at the border and Provincial Tax (7%) when we registered it. Prior to registering it we required an inspection to confirm it met Canadian standards.

Can't help for the transfer into the U.S. but hopefully some of this will be useful.

I would second Andy's comments.

Our Ontario dealer has mainly switched to Sequoias from the "full strength" Redwoods because the prices are getting prohibitive given the lower C$ for us Canuks. Since the dealers are buying the RW from the factory converting C$ to US$ they don't have any advantage over a US dealer, and I'll bet the conversion costs and delivery cost in US$ eventually get built into the Canadian sale price

Now, if you are buying used, that might be a different matter, it can be seen from the number of used cars and trucks heading across the border into the US.
