We are going to San Fran in the next week before heading back to Indiana. Asking if someone has recommended RV facility close by but out of the traffic. What lying to drive my truck, just don't want to get too close with the Redwood. Also if u have thoughts of locations on our way down from Astoria would appreciate them as well

Thanks, Allen and Kim

Coming down the coast we have used
- Cannon Beach RV Park
- Bandon by the Sea RV Park - note this one is south of town, not the parking lot in town with a similar name
- Turtle Rock Resort just south of Gold Beach
- Brookings Beach Front RV Park - really basic, but great ocean views

I-5 Southbound
- 7 Feathers Casino RV Resort in southern Oregon
- Rolling Hills Casino, Corning CA

If you're on the northern California coast and have never seen the Redwoods, try Redwood RV Park (no kidding) just north of Crescent City. Stay for a couple of days and see the massive coastal Redwood trees. Just truly awesome, and the park is really neat. Not satellite friendly, but worth it.

Sorry, farther down if you're headed to the Bay area, we stayed at Riverwalk RV park in Fortuna. Say an extra day and go see the town of Ferndale. Quaint little place. The RV park is a short walk away from a Brewpub. Great food and brewery.

Sorry, saw you're ultimately headed to SF. The closest RV park we found to the north side of SF was:
http://www.marinrvpark.com/campground/
Their rates are pricey, but we stayed a few years ago. Had a tour operator pick us up to do downtown SF and return, pretty reasonable. I think baseball season is over, but we walked 20 min north of park to the ferry terminal and took the ferry to the Giants baseball stadium. Docked right at the stadium and then ferry back to terminal....................wonderful sightseeing experience. Plus the added benefit of being able to gaze over at San Quentin while walking the dog.

Ok another perhaps silly question for those of you have traveled the area.
What is your advice as far as driving Hwy 101 with our Redwood. Yes or no?
Or do u suggest staying off I-5 and drive over w/o Redwood.

NO, not with the RW!!! Too many tight curves & switchbacks. We went to Hwy 20 (if I recall correctly) & cut over to a highway parallel to I-5 but don't remember what it was.

Danny that is what we were thinking, so we will look at other roads or use I-5 then park the RW and drive over.

No problems on 101! Have driven it from Astoria to San Fran with our Redwood at least a half dozen times. Absolutely no problems.

Can you give us a idea how long the trip would be? Also we have a 39 mb will the extra length be a problem?

This is a federal highway and trucking route. Length is not a problem and there are lots of RV parks and state parks. Timing is a function of how much you want to see and how far you want to drive each day. 5 days is reasonable from Astoria to SF but does not allow much time to stop and see things.
