Weather Alert for those in the Northern Texas-Southern Oklahoma area for the next several hours....

Tornado watch. Storms are popping like crazy between Stephenville, TX and up thru the Davis Mountains in Oklahoma.

It's getting to be that time of year again.

They make smoke detectors and CO detectors. How about a tornado or hail detector?

Are you in the area of the potential tornadoes? If so, be careful & safe.

Those things can get nasty in a hurry!

We were traveling from Tulsa, OK to Abilene, TX and were lucky enough to stay just ahead
of the front that was passing through, doing tap dances with it along the way. Had my eye out for down spouts as we drove. Not sure what we would have done if we did spot one.

We made it to the campground just in time, checked in, and were told we had minutes before the storm would hit, so hurry and set up!

It is a luxury to travel in the best of weather for sure.

3 tornadoes reported. Up I-35W.

Usual areas. They start near our house but don't really get spun up tight until they get closer to Denton and Gainesville.

Anywhere near the Texas Motor Speedway is a likely target. 1" hail falling now in that direction.

We usually get the large hail here first. Just another stormy night for us so far.

Staying another night in Amarillo before heading to OK City. Thunder, wind, and hard rain going on now and predicted throughout the night. Depending on the forecast, we will head for OK tomorrow. :S

Not much to stop the wind there at the Oasis park, been there TOO often at this time of year, told our daughter from now on we're coming in the fall.

The storms from the other night dropped 4" hail.

More storms developing this afternoon. They are building thru the Texas Panhandle now.

Tonight's round is supposed to be worse than the other night. We are already under tornado watches again.

The storms look bad on radar out in West Texas.

Sounds like another rough night.

Looks like we came through Texas at the right time (a couple of weeks ago). Now that the RW is in the driveway we have a snow/freezing rain warning for later in the week!

Our mobile phone provides audible and spoken alerts for hail, lightening and tornados. It is nerve wracking to awake to those alarms however so glad we the alert. The phone display opens also showing the radar for our immediate area. That map was handy last summer when we awoke to the alarm as we made a run for it in our truck staying at a right angle to the funnel. We have had significant damage to our home and vehicles several times however our RW has not been damaged. Three weeks ago a tornado missed our home by about one mile then headed onto Grain Valley where it destroyed most of that small town. The nearby siren did not go off as the person that "pushes the button" decided that there was no funnel. It was embedded and not visible at night. That "little" mistake has been corrected so that the NWS alarm sets off the local siren. We were puzzled as to why our phone alert was going off and not the nearby siren. Having a second severe weather alert capability is helpful especially in tornado alley.

Is it an app from Intellicast called "Storm", or another?

In Colorado it was a "forced" change to the phone software. It sounds on tablets, phones, even some 4G computers. Part of the mass communication upgrades. Does amber alerts too.

Okay, if it's like an 'amber alert', then it should be automatic. No app needed.

Thanks Brad!

As noted in Atom Ant's comment that it was an automatic feature loaded from the mobile provider (Verizon for me). It is very handy however the amber and silver alerts seem to be increasing along with school lock down alerts. The voice alert that comes with the tone alert helps to sort through the various alerts. One day I had my phone turned off and the weather alert turned on the phone. Off is really not off and with some of the newer phones while removing the battery is not an option for a growing number of phones. These alerts could be somewhat a nuisance for some however lives are being saved so I am good with these emerging technologies along with drones that our local law enforcement and a growing number of private industries use. Our world is changing rapidly and I enjoy observing and using the technologies.

Its been a long time coming, but well worth it! The days of the general population listening to radio or television broadcasts, even in the car, are past with the introduction of multiple type of entertainment media, and it was just unreasonable to get voice clarity on those city wide warning speaker systems.
