Dont know how many have looked at the new 2017 Ford Super Duty trucks but they are amazing. I retired from Ford so maybe I'm just a little partial. Diesel now has 440 HP and 925 pounds torque. Ultimate trailer towing camera systems utilizes up to 5 cameras to assist in a 360 degree view of backing the trailer. Just amazing stuff. Blind spot warning system, adaptive steering, lane keep alert. Even adaptive speed control that uses radar to sense the distance from the vehicle ahead and adjust the speed control to compensate. The transfer case, frame, axles have all been upgraded to a massive load carrying size. They even mounted the cab on hydraulic cylinders to smooth the ride. Stop take a look at them you will be amazed if your a old timer like me that never thought any of this type stuff was even possible. Now they are talking self driving Ford by 2020. I just purchased a 2017 F 350 dually and had a 2015 F 350 SRW and the difference is beyond belief.
When they get self-driving up and running when towing, that will be a game changer for me!

Ken,
You might be waiting for a while, as in our experience they are a long way away from self-driving.
We just drove most of the West Coast in Judi's new Fusion, which has all the same toys as the 2017 Super Duty. Not too bad on the motorways, but other roads not so much. The adaptive cruise control is brilliant. Just drove through San Francisco Bay area and never had to touch the pedals.
In a car, I felt very comfortable, but with 16,000lbs behind me, probably not.

Maybe not as far as you think! Denver Driverless Beer Truck
If it can navigate a 40' payload of beer, it could certainly do a Redwood 🙂

Brad,
Perfect choice for a trial.
The article confirms our experience. On the motorway it works well, but on ordinary roads and within towns they need more development.

Frank,
Did you also get the auto-sensing wipers and auto-dimming headlights on your new Super Duty?
Is that the new aluminum pop can truck ! Don't lean on it any where 2016 the last real deal Trubo 440 hp 26,500 ponds of pulling power and the tow mode is fanatic as is the engine brake !
That is amazing! Exactly what I'm looking for.
I think I'm going to have to have a Bud tonight to support their effort and celebrate.

sure did
Not sure where you got your specs but that's your song Ill let you sing it. I have had a 2012, 2013, 2015 super duty and this 2017 is by far the best one. I like the idea of a aluminum body as it will never rust and I had to drill a hole through the bed floor for a aux tank line and it was tough as hell. Ive been a tool maker and tool engineer 45 years working at times for large aircraft companies with the aircraft heat treated aluminum. Pound for pound it beats steel sheet every time. My torque ratings show 925 pounds and 440 HP far more torque than any previous model. Ford specs also show a 27,300 tow rating with 3.55 gears and 27,500 with the 4.10 I have. Just cant imagine a company like ford would risk putting a inferior truck out there and lose that 43 year #1 selling truck rating. Glad you like your truck and I love my pop can truck like no other. Ive give it 5 months now and it just gets more lovable all the time.
Fellow across from me has a new '17 F450 King Ranch with 5000 miles on it & he says it wanders so bad he can hardly keep it between the lines. Had it back to dealer 2-3 times & they can't find anything out of whack, they suspect the tires!!, but he's about to head home for the summer & afraid to tow his 5er the way it handles. He said they will probably get rid of it if they make it home with it.

I drove a f450 and settled on the f350 DRW. The 450 just had a lot stiffer ride to it. Didn't notice it handling that bad though. He needs to call the ford 800 number if his local dealer doesn't make things right. I found out also that with a f450 and my fiver I would need a Texas non-com CDL license and I'm not going there for sure.
He's not from Texas & he's been to a couple different dealers.

sound like its a weight distribution problem, more weight on the rear axle and not enough down force on the front if the truck wandering all over, i wondering how it handle with nothing be hide it ? and where he has the fifth wheel plate height set ?
