Fellow across from me has a new '17 F450 King Ranch with 5000 miles on it & he says it wanders so bad he can hardly keep it between the lines. Had it back to dealer 2-3 times & they can't find anything out of whack, they suspect the tires!!, but he's about to head home for the summer & afraid to tow his 5er the way it handles. He said they will probably get rid of it if they make it home with it.
If the wandering only occurs while he is towing one thing that he may want to check is the hitch.
The Reese hitch on our unit is set so the pin is about an inch ahead of the rear axle center line to put some trailer weight on the front axle. If the hitch is put in backwards (it can easily be done and it fits either way, I did it once!) it may make the Ford light on the front that could cause wandering. I've marked the Reese so I install it properly.
I just had our 2011 F-450's alignment checked and had a track bar ball joint replaced to stop the infamous Ford "death wobble", it tracks much better after the work.
The wandering he has is unloaded & he was hoping it didn't get worse once he towed with it the first time. To clarify, he's from Colorado staying in Arizona for the season & bought the truck after rv was parked/setup & drove the truck twice to/from Colorado not towing.
From reading another forum which are mostly motorhomes built on Ford chassis they have countless threads on ways to improve the ride, handling, wandering & overall bad drivability of them.

Frank, you said you could not imagine Ford risking its reputation of being #1 for so long? I was a loyal Ford owner and driver for many years having many different SuperDuties. I purchased the 2005 F-250 6.0. That was where me and 100's of other Loyal Ford drivers jumped ship. While I had little trouble with mine. The kicker was when I went to go and trade it in for another new truck. Ford absolutely did not want my trade. I finally went to check out Ram and GM products. Having had previous issues with GM I checked out the Ram mainly because of the Cummins. Long and short of it is this. I swallowed my pride when Ram gave me a 14K better deal on a 2012 Longhorn. Which to my surprised was much more advanced than any Ford I was looking at. Glad they did. I drove that Ram for 130K completely trouble free. I traded for another Ram in 2016. I did look at the Ford again because I honestly like Fords. But once again they were on their high horse. So at this point I do not see myself ever going back to them. I am concerned over the rumors of Ram no longer having the Cummins? If that is true Ram may lose me then. Not sure what I will do.
