Just starting to plan our trip South and we are thinking of taking Hwy 101 from Oregon down to the Bay area.

However, the other option is the Pacific Coast Hwy southbound from Leggett. I know it has grades and tight bends, so has anybody attempted this road with the RW.

I would not! 1st chance is hwy 20 @ Willits. When are you passing though? We live in the area, Windsor.

A great motorcycle road but I would not recommend it for your 5th wheel. We drove it with a smaller pull trailer and it was a challenge. The curves are very tight and there are logging trucks barreling around them. The tight turns will play havoc with your tandem tires!

Last year we cut back over from Arcata to Redding on 299. That is very doable, very scenic, but you would need to carefully monitor road conditions in the winter as it cuts over the coastal mtn range.

Thanks Ken,

Passing through about 3rd week in January. Planning to spend a few days in the Windsor area, as we have stayed at our Windsor timeshare a few times

Thanks Terry,

Will stick to 101. Yes, we have driven 299 from Redding to the coast a few years ago.

Andy,
Do you stay at Worldmark at Windsor? If so, that is just across the freeway from our home and blocks from both of my grown children's homes!

We won't be home in January....heading to Parker/Quartzsite/Yuma for January....we keep missing one another! Last time I think it was in Indio!

Ken,

Affirmative, we use the Worldmark and frequently walk down the road and across the motorway to the mall. Small world.
