I'm looking at a Ram Mega Cab with the short bed. Does anyone use this setup? I'm trying to determine if I'll need a slider hitch or not.

Thanx,

Jim

In the past the mega cabs bed was only 5 1/2' long, shorter than most short beds, if thats still the case I would think yes, but I have no first hand experience. Also if it's that short I'd guess you would definitely need the dually as it would be mounted behind the axle instead of directly over/ in front of it??

With a Standard Bed (formerly Short Bed) you can get away without a Slider IF you're very very careful. If everything is level, site, road, site access you're generally OK, but if everything isn't level and you don't have a slider you run the risk of rear window loss.
Now as to your Mega Cab, don't know.

We have a dodge megacab with a short box. Hasn't been a problem. We were told to just be careful not to turn to sharp so we experimented with one of us outside while the other backed sharply to see what the range would be. Seemed pretty difficult to turn sharp enough to cause a problem.

We have a 2014 mega cab, 6' 2" bed and seems to work great with our RW.

We have towed our 2012 Redwood 36FL with a DRW Dodge Mega Cab for approximately 60K miles. We have a sliding hitch and would not have any other setup. Better safe than sorry.

Thanks for the info. Found a good deal on a 2016 longbed so it's a moot point.

Thanx

Jim
