Sorry bout that....My truck is a 3500 srw short bed, crew cab cummins 4x4 with a 11700 gvw 6000# front end that came with a 3.42 rear end from the factory. I changed to a 4.10 rear end and added firestone air bags....If it's 13400 I'm good...if not that's an issue....

I'm surprised at how far the factory numbers are off. My cummins will definitely be grunting but the 4.10 will help

Here are the scales on our Redwood 36RL and a 2008 F350 dually. The first sheet was the truck, second sheet with Redwood empty, third with Redwood packed for camping. I had to sell or original SRW truck and get a Dually before I took it out the first time. As you can see, loaded the Redwood was over 17,200 lbs and pin weight was 4,350 lbs.

Alan, your biggest issue with SRW is the truck rear axle weight. A single has a 7000 lb rear axle but even more importantly your tires are probably only rated for 7200.
Get the rig weighed ata CAT Scale and see what your drive axle weight is. That will be the deciding factor.
In my case, I found I was almost 900 lbs over and that’s when someone got a very nice 9 month old truck and I got a Dually that I love.

I had the 6.4 with 4.10s, and the 6.7 with 3.73s, and I have to admit the 6.4 would have left that 6.7 in the dust because of the gear ratio. I really felt the difference in the Rockies (which is our backyard) after buying the new 6.7. Not only uphill, but downhill. I couldn't seem to slow those 3.73 down enough for my liking. Had I of known I could feel that much of a difference, I would have went to the 4.30s to be honest. They had just started offering them in the F350 with a wide track option which gave you the wider front axle and lower gearing like the F450. I have no idea what they offer now.

My tires are rated at 4080 each but even at that I'm not sure I want to get that close to being overloaded....

What size and type of tire are you running on your truck? I have never see any tires rate higher then 3650 other then load range G trailer tires. The 265/70/18 tires on my GMC are only good for 3520 each that's why the rear axel is only rated at 7000 max on single rear wheel trucks.

Interesting , the stock 18" GMC wheels are not rated that high and I could put any bigger then 33 " maybe 34"tall tire in my truck without a lift. That not happening , it just kills the rear gear ratio to much and with 3.73 it already on the edge of not enough gear

I agree with GipC on RV. "You'll have your favorite somewhere but the goal is to buy your 1st rig the 1st time. Not the 3rd time. And remember, if a rig meets 80% of your criteria, that's probably about as good as it gets."

As far as a tow vehicle, we bought our unit "1st time" and once we found the right one, bought the truck that could tow it. Never knew how much we had to learn and was very happy with learning much from owners here on the ROG forum.
