The long story:

A buddy of mine is a retired Postal Inspector. Over a few beers and some BBQ we came up with the idea that during mine and Gizzi's travels it would be fun to collect pictures of Post Offices. I could let him know where we are and he could see some offices he hasn't perhaps yet seen. Anyway, the idea grew legs and as we launched into our journey to Alaska we started to seek Post offices to grow what became our 'Zip code Collection'.
It's easier than I thought. Just in the first few weeks of our journey the idea has had some very unintended consequences.

It has made us go to places, to see some of America we would not have seen if not for the search of a post office. It has been a great way to document our journey. Having a digital record of images where we are, really helps building the photo albums and sharing with others. Yes I know, GPS meta-data will tell me where the image was taken, but having a good anchor image of where we are has proven to be a bonus. To boot, it's fun!

I think it is as a cross between geo-cacheing and digital stamp collecting but with a Redwood RV twist.

During the process I started to think perhaps others in the ROG might wish to contribute to this effort and share with the other ROG members. To that end, I've started a ROGroup "Collecting Zip codes" in the "Travel Planning & Sharing" section.

It's easy, join the group, and then during your travels find a post office and take a picture. Make sure you can see the town and zip code of the office, then post it up on the group so all can see.

If enough people like the idea perhaps we can build a map for members to see where others have been.

Anyway, I do hope some will contribute and we can get an idea just how far traveled out Redwoods are!

That's what I was thinking about, but rather than just posting them to a thread in the forum I was wanting people to join the ROGroup and add the pictures to the groups Photo library.

You can go to the ROGroup link at the top left of the website, select Travel Planning and Sharing category and the Zipcode group then join. Once you do that you can add new photos to the groups photo library as well as post things on the groups wall.

PS. Might want to rotate the image 90 degrees clockwise before uploading. Sometimes posting directly from a phone or pad comes out wrong.

Yes that's it!

Please join the ROGroup and post the images to the photo section so we can start an album with all the post offices we've found.
