We're staying in Pigeon Forge, TN Oct 23-25, 2018. We want to head south towards Gainesville or Athens, Georgia. Please advise traveling thru the mountains or would you not recommend it with our 2017 3901MB Redwood. We're pulling it with a Super Duty 450 Ford dually. Specific info on highways would be greatly appreciated.
Can't assist with specific highways, but have towed our 2013 36FL through the Rockies with a 2012 F350 SRW and laterally a 2016 F350 DRW. Probably completed over 10,000 miles, without any issues, in the Rockies.
Can't imagine the Great Smoky Mountains are worse than the Rockies, so wouldn't anticipate having problems with your Redwood in the mountains, especially with a F450.
I pull the same trailer with a 3500 dually. We toured through the area when going to Bristol TN. We went through the Smokey’s when heading to Savannah. And again when going to Hilton Head. We have stayed in the mountains at a few different campgrounds. There is nothing there your rig won’t handle with ease. In fact, it was a great smooth trip from Knoxville to Charleston SC. Now I95 is a different story. Little rough in places.
I was in Pigeon Forge this past August..I would NOT want to take 321-441- down to Athens pulling a Redwood.. The hills are ok, but the turns and narrow roads are a pain in the butt,.. with all the tourists slowing down to look at the views....
Taking the highways, 40-26-85 is really only 30 minutes longer
I agree with Joe! In fact we ended up in the same place. I used the Interstates.
Thanks for the advice! We toured thru the national park with the truck and totally agree that it would have easily pulled the rig, but the narrow roads and tight turns would have been nerve racking! 40-26-85 was the way to go. Thanks again!
