Something to Think About While On The Road - Emergencies
Most of the time, we just travel about and never think ahead about what we might do in an emergency...
Here is an article I read this morning that reminded me of how important it is to know what you would do in the event of an emergency and try to plan ahead (at least to some degree):

When traveling, what would you do if someone suddenly needed emergency care? Most might think to call 911 obviously. But what if you are not in range of a cell tower? Do you know where the nearest medical services are when you're in the mountains? Do you have an alternate means to call for help? How about an old fashioned CB in the tow vehicle?
How many of you carry a medical kit?
I bet most don't carry a Defibrillator. I know I don't right now, but I've explored buying one. They are coming down in price and there are certified used units even less.
What would you do if someone had chest pains? Especially if you out in a an isolated place? Not everyone has nitro tablets but could aspirin buy some time?
When you get to a camp and get set up, do you have a small white board by the door indicating the Park's address, telephone number and space number? One might not remember this information in a panic situation.
I'm no medical expert by any means, but being in strange places or out in the sticks could be a problem.
This topic is not meant for scaring people. It's just to have us think about what we have at our disposal IF an emergency happens. No sense in having hind-site...
DW is a retired Emergency Room RN from one of Vancouver's major trauma hospital, so we always travel with an extensive medical kit. Don't have an AED, but we are both CPR certified, although mine was many years ago.
The other consideration is a vehicle emergency kit, which is a requirement for our local driving test. The examiner even checked the contents.
As to the communication part, we have On Star in our truck & have had since '05 & unless we break down in a tunnel we have an emergency button to push which gets someone on the line with our GPS location immediately.
As you mentioned in the other post, this is the electronics age & there's no reason for lack of emergency communication.
